Luke ..only thought of it as saw it in someone's garden and I thought wow the little pumpkins on the ground looked great ..so did her watermelon and cantaloupe ..she grew all sorts..germinate mangoes from seeds..her specialty was her succulents ..she collects them..

Shade half the day isn't great for growing veg. It's not impossible but makes it harder.

Plant the passion fruit and send the fruit my way!

We also have a bunch of vege seedlings and their companion plant, marigolds, to plant this weekend. I need hubbyto dig in the compost first, if the rain holds off.

I agree with Tribbletrouble...... on the shade comment.

But, there's no harm in trying and experimenting....

Agree - shade adds a layer of difficulty - most veg likes full sun but there are a few things you can grow that doesn't mind a bit of shade. You could try: Nasturiums (leaves and flowers are edible), Parsley, Beans, Peas, Chives, Lettuce, Asian Greens, Brussell Sprouts, Ginger, Wasabi - you could try Strawberries but you'll get a reduced yield. Mint is brilliant in shade but make sure that you keep it in a pot otherwise it'll take over.

My mint got infested with little black raised dots.

Tribbletrouble, :( sounds like fungus - try an organic spray - I've used 2L of a drop of detergent, 4 teaspoons of bicarb of soda of water, and a drop of vegetable oil. The bicarb soda makes the leaf surface alkaline which helps stop the fungus germinating - gotta love the Gardening Australia website for cheap DIY solutions! .

Oops! I mean 2L of water, a drop of detergent and 4 teaspoons of Bicarb and a drop of vegetable oil! Goodness, 2L is one mighty big drop of detergent!!!
