Help from lighting experts - colour changing tile!
Comments (1)Hi J E, This is a common dilemma. Is there any chance you could view the tile under the light you are proposing to use? You have mentioned you are using White LED downlights. Do you know what colour rendering the LED downlights are going to be (eg: 3000k, 4000k, 5000k)? If your builder is specifying the lights then it would be to your advantage to ask to borrow one prior to installation. They usually have a plug on them, which means you could plug it in to a normal power point and view your tile beneath it. You may want to ask for different colour rendering options also so that you get exactly what you want. Hope this helps :)...See MoreSubway Tiles For Kitchen Splashback. Where can I find edging tiles?
Comments (5)Have you already sourced your tiles? I would expect most tile stores could help you find the edging tiles which I think are typically termed 'pencil' tiles for the style you have shown. We used bevelled subway tiles in our DIY ensuite. In hindsight we would have aimed to finish the brick pattern with 1/3 and 2/3 sized tiles (like in your pic 1) rather than full and 1/2 (pic2 and 3) to give a more even edge thickness/profile... Might not suit and we didn't use capping tile (I lost that arguement!) so it is probably more obvious in our bathroom, but just something you might like to consider....See MoreIs this how tiling is supposed to look?
Comments (30)@P I I've always understood that with floor tiling the variously shaped part tiles are usually planned for the wall of, say, a bathroom (washroom) that is the least seen (around the toilet or under the bench supporting the basin(s) or simply at a back wall (and maybe corner). If the floor-tiles meet carpeting at the bathroom (washroom) door then the above is what I would want and expect. However if the floor tiles are also in an adjoining corridor (and maybe other rooms) then perhaps the tile layout in the bathroom (washroom) will be dictated by their layout in more 'important' rooms. I think @tectile could more professionally comment on this....See MoreRegrouting - DIY or tradies?
Comments (6)I quite like the tiles. The grout looks sound, although it’s hard to tell from a real estate pic. If it’s in good condition overall you can use a grout pen on it to colour it. Bunnings has them. Bunnings also has grout remover tools. You don’t want to fully dig out the grout because you may damage the waterproofing. Just remove enough so you can top coat with fresh grout. Removing grout is tedious but not difficult. The silicon can be removed with a paint scrapper and WD40 or a hairdryer. You can also buy silicon remover at Bunnings. You can then reapply silicon (make sure you get one with mould inhibitor) with a tube and gun - watch YouTube. It’s not difficult if you take your time. You may find it difficult to find a tradie to do it, and you’ll certainly find it difficult to find one to fit with a tight timeline unless you already have connections. Exciting time for you....See More- 10 years ago
