Some good comments above. My simple suggestion goes like this. Starting at each end, I see they are adjustable, double up the shelves making them stronger, and then you will only have two shelves in each bay. Even them out so yu end up with three equal cubbies. They will look quite cubed, and house foldable fabric baskets which are cheaply available in many colours, try Kmart for packs of 5 for less than 10.00. I would use these end cubes for your practical needs, like onesies, singlets, nappies and creams etc. The central shelves I would display the children's favourite things, on lower shelves, books to access, and some things you want seen as keepsakes, not to play with a they won't reach them easily. The shelves could be configured differently in each space depending on use, but I'd utilize the lower two cubes in one room as desk space, with books above. A cute colourful lamp, and again foldable baskets each side, so that perhaps each child may choose their own side, and have somewhere that's just theirs. In a house ful, it's even more important to have somewhere just for your stuff. These will be great when you make them a little less busy, and providing those inserts will keep them looking tidy, even when they're not. maybe you Could have different colours for each child, to help with the order of things. Something like silver birch trees don't take up too much room but will provide some height and interest. Personally I pick out natives, after asking local garden centres for those which are natural to my area. I've used black mondo grass across the front of my walls with purple fountain grass behind it. The fountain grass really takes the summer heat, doesn't need much water and self-seeds. It's grown slightly taller than me after a few years. I have, what I call a 'survival of the fittest' garden. Over the years, I've experimented with all sorts of plants. Eventually, only those that survive with little help, and almost no extraneous watering, get to stay. One of the key things I did when planting out my garden was to dig down into the soil and lay a mat of used, natural-blend carpet underlay (not the more synthetic types used these days). Just ask someone getting rid of their old carpet- it's easy to come across. Above the carpet underlay I added water crystals, then put the soil back on top. After the gardens have been established, I haven't need to get the hose out since. I do have lots of succulents around the place, some native plants and ornamental grasses. I hope this helps.

This depends entirely on the amount of light, the purpose of the room, the facing to the sun, and your existing furnishings. You could post few photos to give some guidance but if it is a new build I would suggest heading into a paint store for some sample pots. Once you have the sample pots - paint them onto some old wall paper and move them around and look at them in different lights. If it is for a whole house - think in terms of using half and double strengths to give continuity and some variation. Think about having some walls that could take a deeper tone to add interest to you scheme and also think about your floor coverings. If it is an older home - avoid stark whites and have a hint of your colour in white ceilings as it softens the effect. Generally I suggest avoiding too much yellow or cream and pink hues as these colours tend to date more quickly. Greys, beiges and hints of green are popular - current trends are blue greens and peach tones but will date. I am more familiar with Resene colours and particularly like Thorndon Cream and White Pointer in various strengths . Black White is particularly good for displaying art work and is very popular. You can have these colours put into Dulux paints. Have a search on Houzz to see that tones you like. Good luck.

You can buy spiral rods specifically made for constructing gabion baskets from weldmesh. Gabions need to withstand tonnes of weight. A few C rings isn't going to cut it as the weldmesh will bend outwards under the weight. Hence the spiral ties which are sold. I looked into making my own gabions but discovered that I wouldn't save any money doing so and would only waste my time and put myself through a lot of effort when I could have just purchased flat packed baskets anyway.
