What do other Houzzers think of my lounge room colour scheme?
Comments (82)Ok, don't like the dark cushion, don't like the TV in the bedroom. You could go for pendant lighting using the same 'material' as the mirror? If you went for larger beside lamps while you have that mirror there, they would be fighting each other. In the programs I watch, they say to have 'a hero in the room'. In this case the mirror is the hero I think. Also the extra throw cushion for the bed could match one on the chair, so it ties in (or don't have one at all on the bed). If you did need a TV what about having one installed on the wall to the right of the chair,(looking at the photo) and make sure it can swivel out, so when you aren't watching TV in bed it can be against the wall, out of the way. Then you can have a lovely (glass) ornament or two, or a bunch of flowers sitting on it along with your photos. I love how you have your bed dressed, spot on! (without the dark cushion) I absolutely adore the blue shades in the duvet cover and I would draw those out into the room. Love that you have opened up your windows in the lounge. Maybe a throw rug and some colourful (same colours as in the duvet cover on your bed) cushions on the lounge suite as nothing is really popping! There doesn't seem to be any colour except for the flowers and the photos. Colourful paintings on the wall would be lovely too. Maybe the potted plants could be in coloured (as in your duvet cover) pots instead of white. I know you weren't asking about the lounge and if you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Well done....See MoreNeed help with sitting room
Comments (22)What a lovely room, my thought are: - agree that the couches should be rearranged, away from the largest window to let in more light - if you are buying new couches, I'd go for a lighter colour (if you don't have young kids) and some cushions perhaps with a pop of colour - coffee table could be rectangle or round - either glass or a light colour timber - some wall art, floor standing lamps, mirror and indoor plants would also help to brighten up the space - roller blinds would be my choice as I like that they let in a lot of light, but if you prefer curtains then I'd go for a light neutral colour (white/cream) Hope that helps :)...See MoreDESIGN DILEMMA - 5TH ROOM vs Walk in pantry sitting room/study
Comments (5)There is a difference in proposing changes for the purpose of your own functional needs, as opposed to speculative value-adding purpose. The latter is always a roll of the dice and trying to 2nd guess potential buyers, which is (IMO) never a sensible approach to a building project. Without understanding the entire house/scenario, it's impossible to offer judgement one way or the other. Design decisions should always be considered in the overall scheme of things, and as always balanced against your goals and of course costs involved. A Bedroom straight off a dining room will not be very appealing, however potentially a small study space could be deemed a logical /practical space. If you're serious about it best seek professional design assistance to help you work through your options. Cheers PD :)...See MoreWhat should I do with my lounge room, which doubles as my entry?
Comments (13)Hi Kathryn, making an assumption here but if your wish is to make the room more cohesive, I’d try to pare it back. One way to begin is to, temporarily, remove everything except the essentials - cushions, art, knick knacks, books, small tables etc. Then list what large items you feel don’t ‘fit’ the feel you’re after. The following is a for instance example only: your lounge set and the red armchair are lovely and suit the house. The office chair is a great colour match and mixing modern and traditional can be great, but it takes up a lot of room making the room look a bit cramped. So, do you remove one of the chairs? Or find a smaller desk? Or could one of the other furniture pieces go? Or could the placement of the items be altered for better flow? Only you know what is essential, what feels good to you, what other spaces you have et al. Once you’ve got a plan, which will include where to place the television 😉, bring back the items you love and feel suit your style, group them to enhance the look you want to achieve (Houzz is full of ideas about displaying your treasures effectively), add some pretty time period lighting and you’re good to go. Long term, you might consider getting a framed wicker cover or similar to hide the modern day tech near your front door, if it bothers you. One last thing re the gas fire heater, and I’d at least think about it just on an economic and environmental basis, check out stones as an alternative to the wood fire replicants....See Moregirlguides
