The black leather sofas are the ones we currently have, but the modern one is in the family room. The antique one is currently in formal lounge, but we are not necessarily planning on keeping it… I am so complicated, aren't I :(

Thanks for the opportunity to look at your room and think about what I would do. It has been fun. I think the round coffee table will work if it is large enough for everyone seated in the L sofa arrangement to reach it. (Bonus is no barked shins from sharp corners on a square one.) I agree pale colours like yellow won't do much for bringing about a changed more modern look. The room needs more drama and freshness and I think that currently the room has too many colours in the pale range and not enough contrast. I would go for introducing more of the stronger colours in your attractive tribal fabric, including black and white. Black in particular will allow you to really update the look. Consider painting the bookcase or even the doors black. (The existing coffee table would even look good painted glossy black.) Some plump cushions in the tribal fabric and others in a bigger more graphic design in large red and white zigzags or stripes say, would add to a more integrated look. Your bright yellow pot plant holder on the bookcase is another colour in your tribal fabric which would look good in the scheme as a minor accent, say, more pots that colour in a larger size, a big vase/artwork or lampshade. My advice is to stay away from golds and beiges as they relate to older fashions. A large framed in black graphic print on the wall in black and white (or even photo with meaning to you) could be an idea to think about too.

Hi Carla,love oklouise ‘s ideas, My most favourite chair is the iconic butterfly, throw a fur over it and it looks beautiful, I think a tan leather will go with your couches, add a rug, some stylish cushions , plants and it could look gorgeous

Hi Lisa, if you’re not able to paint the wicker, I would redo the lounge cover - beige is a really hard colour to match and it’s muted compared to the fresher colour of wicker - basically one colour looks “clean” the wicker, and one colour looks “dirty” the lounge fabric, I don’t mean it is dirty, I mean the tone of the fabric if that makes sense. A light green-grey colour fabric would work really well in this space, a fabric store should be able to help with undertones. Either way in regards to the cushions, I would go for pink and green. You want to pull the colours out of the artwork behind the lounge so that the space ties together - this would also help tie in with the burgundy kick board in the kitchen. I would use a few pink velvet cushions on the main sofas, that way you’re relating the texture of the green velvet chairs and moving the art workwork into the space. I would also use some green cushions so that the green chairs are more integrated. If you can find a pink and green patterned cushion or fabric, you are on a winner! 😊 I’m not sure what your budget is, but I’ve Had a quick look and for pattern cushions, these would be great and go really well with a softer pink velvet cushion. I know there would be softer pattern options out there if you prefer that as well. I hope this helps and I’m sure whatever you decide to do will look great! You’ve got good bones here and a lovely mix of textures :)
