What colour/tone sofa fabric for neutral living room with grey tile?

Hi Everyone, Would love some advice on a colour or tone of fabric for a new sofa we want to order for our new home. Room is flooded with light. The tiles are light grey polished. The sofa will be fabric (leather not an option) we will have it for a long time so don't want it to date. It will be part of a multifunctional space living, play room and study. Photos are of house as it is now so not our furniture, the sofa style we want and some fabric ideas. will post a couple more photos in comments thanks in advance

Help please.. Dark grey carpet and dark grey couch!!
Comments (4)First thing I'd do is throw the grey carpet up onto the sofa. Meaning it's colour. Introduce a thick grey throw, loosely folded over one of the seats, up over the back then layer your cushions in front of that. Building up onto it will scatter your colour palette around and start bringing it all together. It will be softened. However keep your colours to a minimum, perhaps 2. This does not include tones of colour, as many as you like will add interest and sophistication. In a chocolate and grey interior, it could be luxe, but I am thinking shades of salmon and mustard up against creams and greys. You also need to link your walls to the sofas, as the floor area looks heavy in comparison. To correct it you either introduce the wall colour down onto the floor, or the floor colour up onto the wall, it will balance it out. I'd place large black frames with rich colours of chocolate with perhaps gold leaf or metallics. Keep it abstract to be modern, or even go the opposite with some classic charcoal pencil sketches in a pair of large frames. The images will start to personify your space, so choose the context of the image that you can continue a theme from, like architecture where you can place related objects on a side table, even coffee table, I love tables with reference books that on a Whim you can pick up for inspiration. It shows who you are and what you aspire to. Or it may be floral, landscapes, paintings whatever, find something that works. Don't necessarily go looking for art, you can make it, save an image online, print and frame to suit you and your budget. Even an a3 image can be framed in a larger frame to make a bold statement, just add a frame Matt that you get from a picture frame shop. Ikea also have ready made large frames too. For some reason emerald green keeps popping into my mind when I look at your room, maybe some plants, foliage can liven a space but also, slight little traces of it around can freshen a space. Comments (2)I wouldn't worry too much about trying to match your tiles with your carpet, dark grey will go with most colours plus the bedrooms are separate rooms, and sometimes it's better to contrast particularly given they're two different surfaces anyway... my biggest no. 1 question before colour would be what sort of tiles are you after, ceramic, porcelain, etc? 7 years agoHow exciting to be decorating your new home. There are so many selections to make. The fabrics you have chosen are lovely and light. And I can understand your choice due to your darker furniture. One thing I guess to consider is if you will be happy with a coloured fabric for the long haul? Below are some images of the colours you are considering. If you feel you just might be like me and love to change up the look regularly maybe these colours could come in with accessories/throws/cushions so as to be able to affordably update when you feel the need. Therefore a more neutral colour will give more options for the future? Maybe a grey in a slightly stronger tone than your floor?

7 years agoOpt for neutral tones- grey or beige couches are timeless! Colours and patterns can be injected using cushions which are easily interchangeable; depending on trends or seasons.
Hope these photos from our recent Property Styling projects inspire you! There are only 2 different lounges we have used below- showing the versatility of neutrals in suiting a range of styles (contemporary, beach, transitional etc).
Also- instead of it being placed in the centre, if its against a wall: it will open the room up straight away.

7 years agoI do have a toddler. the rental we are in at the moment we have set up his play area like this. so we will be moving that into that second living room. Leather is amazing our main lounge has a leather couch. this will be the second living area. we love the comfort of the couch pictured from the shop so now it's deciding on fabric. leather isn't an option unfortunately. can't seem to find a leather sofa bed (I forgot to mention it's a sofa Bed) with rounded arms and decent mattress. so I'm looking at durable fabric or faux leather options. loving all of the design ideas though. thanks everyone :-)

7 years agogot the river clay swatch. can't believe how different it looks in different lights. first photo is with camera flash, second no flash indoors, third outside in sun and fourth in shade outside. I like it and the texture. we have a winner.

7 years agohey everyone we have finally moved and we got the sofa bed. It is fantastic. I'm still unpacking boxes and trying to sort through things but I think the layout works as I can enjoy views out to my yard while Hudson plays. Thanks again for your advice and help.
