Pendant lights in a large living room with lots of windows

I am not a big fan of down lights other than kitchen and certain rooms. I have chosen for a large living

room with higher than normal ceiling with lots of windows,

four pendants lights as per photo. There will be a fan in the middle of the room and I was thinking of putting four pendant lights spaced on the four corners of the room.

Would love to hear feedbacks. Thank you

I'm with you on down lights. I think you need to consider your furniture placement before hanging the pendants. Could look odd otherwise?

What rug and pendant light would you suggest for the dining room?

Hi Jayrees, I totally agree with what Kat had to offer, I would suggest a non geometric pattern on the rug as the floor is already geometric, a light colour and subtle pattern if you prefer a pattern. The mirror should definitely be moved and I would consider a large light print to compliment the new rug and and drapes. It's a pity that the window screen blocks the view (it's a nice view) but the heavy screen is a necessity these days, I would remove the stickers from the glass to help with the openness. Just noticed that you have an air con in the room so you may be able to remove the screen.

They look great in that photo, Northstar! Works beautifully. Will be fine over your bench. Didn't realise how large your p really space will be. Wow! No, if you replace pendants that have staggered drops, the fittings are completely removed and new pendant fittings are installed in their place. The electrician just shortens the drops without cutting them & the extra lenth is hidden away in ceiling.

Couple of things to consider..... 1. With any lights above a stainless steel sink, the reflection appears on the ceiling, I don’t like it so I installed a black sink. I added very minimal pendant lights, basically they are spotlights on a stick but they can be dimmed. Also I placed mine off centre. Saying that, spotlights can also be dimmed and sometimes, less is more. 2.Pendants in the bedroom can be quite tricky.. Example...they have to be the perfect height, width and as far as a reading light, they’re not adjustable. They cost more as they need to be installed. If you don’t like them, you need to get an electrician to change them. I originally wanted pendants but opted for lamps, happy I did as my bed couldn’t quite be centred so it would have been a mistake. Good luck, hope this helps.

Yes definitely consider your furniture placement. Your lights should connect to the rest of the rooms decor. That is over the coffee table or over side tables. A cluster might work if you vary heights and consider some changes in size and shape of each light. See some examples below. Your light choice is lovely. It will however throw that pattern all around the room, something to think about if it's to be your only light source. You say there will be a fan as well. This will make the pendants move, another point to consider.

Yes I agree with comments. It is a very interesting pendant and will throw wonderful shadows around the ceiling and walls.

Still put the four down lights in, on dimmers so you can control the light in the room, place the furniture then place one or two of your pendants in the correct spots. You could even think about having them at different heights according to what they are above.

I agree that, in a room that size, you still need some downlights, as well as the pendants - or it will be very dingy and dark at night time.

I agree it's good idea to have down lights in living areas as well as your pendants. We have them in ours, as well as pendants and lamps. We use all of the lighting in different combination as suits our purpose of the room at the time. What is it about them you don't like? There are some that are very attractive and edgy. Thank you for your feedback. I think it is just a matter of taste. A pendant light can add to the decoration of the room while a down light is just a discreet lighting in the ceiling. I prefer them in rooms where you you want to create an atmosphere. I appreciate your response.
