Bathroom tiles - run floor tiles up one or all walls in shower?

Am having trouble deciding on floor and wall tiles for an en suite and family bathroom in our new house in the country. My husband likes charcoal but we had intended to run the floor tiles up the wall in the shower area and I'm concerned it will end up dark and gloomy! (And difficult to keep clean ...) The en suite shower faces north and has a window at head and shoulder height (we are miles from neighbours!). The charcoal tile we're currently looking at is matte with satiny patches, so it looks a bit like slate. Could we run the charcoal floor tile up the wall in the shower to the ceiling and then tile the other two walls in the shower matte or perhaps satin white? The remaining walls will be painted white and the vanity is white. The shower in the family bathroom is glass on two sides but only to 2.2 metres - tile to the ceiling here too? Take the dark ones up the shower walls as well, or just white here? Help needed urgently!!!! Builder (and husband) losing patience ...
