We have a glass rangehood similar to Futuro Futuro's Acqualina Glass product and I love it. The top and bottom of the glass gets given a clean about once a week with citrus multi-purpose cleaning spray and then wiped down with a moistened glass cleaning cloth for a pristine finish. Takes around 5 minutes in total. Cleaning the brushed stainless part is more difficult. As mentioned previously, its hard to remove all the marks. Will definately try the WD40. Me, personally, I don't like the mirrored finish. Given the window is acting as the "splashback" I would have gone for something invisible like what Sheryl Horton showed.

@suancol, You are alone at present but what if that changes and you hook up with a chef for example??.....who will cook your home into oblivian ha-ha In my opinion, if you cook in your kitchen even a little, if you don't have a foolproof extraction system, then all the steam etc... even laden with perhaps minimal fat but cooking particles non the less, will eventually see you plastering the entire open plan living with a serious mess. I'm not having overheads as such either for height reasons, I'm very short and overheads serve no purpose for me personally but I wouldn't dream of not having a rangehood, so I will still have two cupboards, one on either side to simply balance the rangehood, so you can have both without covering your entire uper wall area with wall to wall cupboards. I strongly suggest you search Houzz photo's for rangehoods in kitchens and see if you can find a design and rangehood you might be able to live with, as I certainly wouldn't be paying the sort of price suggested for a Gagenau system nor do I think you will ever be happy with an after market wall fan, I think it will look cheap. If you have a rangehood I don't think there is anything poorly done with your kitchen ventilation. I do not believe adding an exhaust fan would be sufficient to avoid cooking smells. So your pantry is a butlers pantry with its own windows? I have seen some large butlers pantries in display homes that are almost like a second kitchen. If your pantry is like that and it has windows and sufficient space to install an oven and sufficient nearby benchspace to make it workable I do not see why you could not have it done. If your butlers pantry is not suitable to use as a second kitchen which can be both closed off and adequately ventilated, then maybe the Webber on the patio type idea might be worth looking into?

I love your inspiration picture, but I have say that if you are considering that door between the formal dining/kids play area and the kitchen I wouldn't position a wall oven there, terribly dangerous when oven is being used, hot and open, a child playing and running through the door would be badly injured. I have had another idea, so as to not take up any of the dining room space plus saving costs of doing this, would be to open up this wall with full height square set pocket doors, when open expands the kitchen and when closed directs the traffic from the dining through the kitchen between the island and doors, keeping them out of the kitchen proper. The fridge is placed so as the family has easy access, you could even add a small sink into the 900 x 3000 island with the cooktop, which gives you heaps of bench top work space My CAD program was produced in 1997 and as you can see that what goes around comes around with the old but new slatted island The first foorplans show the cooktop opposite the doors but I think it works much better to have it at the other end
