Due to the council seeing no value on what our arborist believes is a 1000-1500 year old grass tree. I had to move it, so I could relocate my carport from one side of the property to the other. There is no end to their stupidity.
Apparently, they don't have a good survival success rate after being transplanted so I really hope it lives. I didn't know they lived that long ! I had to have three of them cut down recently at my new home because nobody could remove them. They were planted up against a boundary fence and pushing it over. I couldn't watch, it made me feel sick. Best of luck with your tree and driveway. And screw the council :)
Just discovering for ourselves that building carports to regulations isn't as straightforward as we thought. Apparently new rules mean our side street is our frontage rather than the section that correlates to our address (corner block). We have a tree fern thriving after being transplanted into our backyard from my in-laws place where it was struggling. It originated from the kids' great grandparents place and is now being enjoyed as part of the 'jungle' around the cubby house. Hopefully your grass tree survives equally well.
