Artwork & cushion ideas for my small living area
Comments (16)@oskuee - Wow - that's a bit hostile! Why are you so upset? Other professionals constantly add their comments and suggestions to Design Dilemmas, so why can't I? There are MANY names which appear constantly in nearly every Design Dilemma. I see you have made 1150 comments yourself! This Houzzer has asked for artwork ideas and that is precisely what I am providing. I am giving them advice as to what may/may not work in their space. I'm a hard working Australian Artist trying to make a living, like everybody else and I'm a little frustrated with people sending others to places selling mass produced art, when Australia is rich with creative talent. Shouldn't we be supporting the work of Australian Artists? Original artworks need not be expensive and I don't believe everybody needs to go to the majors for a cheap artwork. I offer affordable art for any size budget. If you have a problem, please send me a direct email....See MoreNeed some art/decor ideas for my dining area and lounge
Comments (14)Hi Ange, Megan from online art gallery, Bluethumb, here. I'm loving the mix of industrial and bohemian pieces you have! I believe that a statement artwork above the dining room table would look great, especially one that balances the two interior styles you have working for you. Here's one by a Bluethumb feature artist I think would perfectly fit with the different aspects of the room, as well as the warm colour palette. https://bluethumb.com.au/brewman/Artwork/summer-landscape-ron-brown The piece is called Summer Landscape by Melbourne artist, Ron Brown. I've mocked it up in situ for you, so you can really visualise it in the space. It measures 120cm by 90cm, so should fit nicely on the wall. I have some alternative ideas for you, also from our feature artists, if that one doesn't appeal: https://bluethumb.com.au/george-hall/Artwork/silent-heat-135-x-90cm-acrylic-painting-on-canvas https://bluethumb.com.au/suebannisterartist/Artwork/the-honey-comb-effect https://bluethumb.com.au/haruyomorita/Artwork/Soul-Portrait-2015-1 https://bluethumb.com.au/bradley-kickett/Artwork/bandee-lakes https://bluethumb.com.au/dinah-wakefield/Artwork/last-light-dinah-wakefield Let me know if you'd like any of these works mocked up! Some ideas for styling would be to keep the space feeling fresh with some plants, perhaps some succulents or native flowers on the dining room table. This would fit perfectly with the trees in Ron Brown's piece! Hope this helps! Megan...See MoreHow do we modernise an art deco room without losing its charm?
Comments (23)I'd echo most others views -- personally , I could live with the aircon and the lights , but the furniture and the mirrors would go ! Again , just personally , I don't have a problem with the mirrors sizes , it's the silver that doesn't suit . I'd go approx 20% smaller mirrors , BUT with really nice wide sculpted dark wooden frames , and lift them a bit -- they almost look like they are sitting on the mantlepieces at present -- lifting them would show more balance IMO . Lounge suite I'd go big , boxy , good quality bright red leather . A modern corner suite would probably suit , or one with a moden interpretation of a chaise , but in big boxy red leather . Or maybe a more classic looking buttoned leather suite , just not in brown -- that would be too much brown . Red or white would work well . The dining suite could be a large 8 seater wooden table in darker brown ( that mahogony one clashes to me ) , or glass top and stainless if you want to be more modern , and modern red chairs -- several styles would work , depending on what table you choose , and how modern you want to be . And for a more modern twist on the windows -- wooden slat blinds -- I have done very similar in my own 95 year old place , and it works well ! My place is similar , although it doesn't have those higher picture rails -- my place has carved rails approx 1.2mtr above the floor level , and Rimu panelling ( a NZ wood ) below that -- has that 'gentlemans club' feel . I did the walls above that in a mid steel blue in some rooms , a grape colour in others , english cream in a couple , and an earthy orangey-brown with white gloss tiles in the kitchen ! And in most rooms , I did a feature wall , wallpapered in complimentary colours to the other 3 walls in that room ! Strange sounding I know , but it works ! In the larger rooms and entrance foyer , I have large gold waterfall chandaliers , the other rooms I have gold curved light bars with 4 to 6 led spotlights -- all with crisp white ceilings similar to yours , and art deco inspired ceiling roses and architraves . I love the mix of classic and modern , with a twist of class...See MoreDesigning living room around wall art - help
Comments (7)To me , I'd want to know the style and era of the house , and the look of the other rooms , and even the size of the room . On it's own , with that art , and white walls and timber floor , I'd say do a white leather suite ( or 5 or 6 matching white leather chairs ) and a large screen TV on another wall , and a large coffee table in either white gloss , or black frame and smoke glass top . And then set it off with 3 or 4 green leafy potplants ( all different plants and different heights ) in pots in similar blue and green and mustard hues as the art . Any windows do in light wooden ventians ( white slats would be overkill without seeing the room IMO ) or black as a contrast . Add a mustard or jute rug . BUT that may not suit the rest of the house , or the size or shape of the room ....See Moreecl24
