I probably would steer away from black if you want to keep the country theme

I'm about to put a cooktop on the 2.3 x 900 peninsular (island with only one free end ( in my new galley kitchen. I am using an induction top so it can be fitted flush with the benchtop surface, allowing me to use the whole area as benchtop when not in use. I intend to have bar stolls on the living room side for entertaining. My joiner has suggested making a beautiful, thin timbercover to go over the glass induction surface for added protection. I just need to decide on down draft induction hob or a ceiling casette. My main aim is to remove the smelly cooking smells from my unit. The smell from one evening of cooking indian chicken curry currently lasts at least a week! Any advice?

This is going to come down to what your space is like, light, how you use the kitchen, how does it relate to other areas of the house ie. is it open plan, so needs to complement other areas such as dining & family? Here are a few examples of backsplashes with concrete benchtops. Depends on your personal style & taste as to what appeals to you. My 1st reaction was marble, it would give interest & movement but without knowing what else you have going on in the room...

Have you been to visit some kitchen showrooms? You can customise the photo search here on Houzz quite a bit. Then add more filters like floor colour, kitchen layout, cabinet style, wall colour etc if you wish. Leave the benchtop and splashback options open and see what results you get. You can then save any photos that appeal to your ideabook.
