I think the more modern look would be to do the ceilings and walls the same colour white. Follow Zest’s advice and paint up some sample boards and move them around. I just painted a room Whisper White and I love that colour but it has a westerly aspect and is throwing more yellow than expected. Natural White is Dulux”s most popular white so you probably can’t go too wrong with it but it’s so personal. Finally, don’t rely on posted photos. Your phone or computer screen has all sorts of colour bias that makes it fraught for judging colour.

I agree with Gallifrey, gloss and no stain is the way to go. Our brush box floors are nearly 20 years old and survived our youngest son rollerblading and riding his trike the length of our house. Yes, it does show dust a bit more, but it is much harder wearing.

Hi Andrew, I think you are asking what type of timber you can use to match your floors. You may like to consider either Karri, ( or Spotted Gum, Nyatoh or Tasmanian Blackwood) as these are readily available hardwood timbers in this varigated tone and grain pattern you have. It is also worth noting that Timbers that start out with red in them also actually fade over time to turn this nutty colour. Once you decide on a spiecies, your Cabinet Maker may also be able to hand pick colours to get the closest match. Hope this helps; regards Malcolm.

That kitchen cabinetry will be difficult to paint and achieve a lasting finish especially in a family environment. So keep them white. If the kitchen is fairly enclosed I’d also leave the walls light but if you want to add colour I’d swap out the backsplash with a tile that matches the Oolong you’re using in the adjacent room. Add a vintage rug and timber accessories and you’ll have the oomph you’re after. All the bedrooms being Dieskau won’t be boring - remembering you’ll be adding life in the form of people and furniture. Oolong is very dark in a modern house with low ceilings. I’m assuming that the kids bedrooms only have a standard window and don’t get the light that the living areas pics are showing. I love a moody bedroom but probably not needed in kids rooms. Don’t forget the rooms aren’t just the paint - light fittings, wardrobes, toys, bedding, art/posters, treasurers; all need to go into a kids room. You have a great house to work with.
