How to lay-out a TV & fireplace side-by-side (Hamptons style)?

I am trying to find a suitable design for a tv and fireplace
unit. The style is to be ‘Hamptons-esque,’ so the fireplace is standard
dimensions (not a slender horizon profile) with a surround. The flat-screen tv
is to be wall mounted with cabinetry for 2 components (PVR = amplifier). Here’s
the trick: we do not want a tv mounted high on a wall, so they would virtually
be side-by-side. I’d appreciate any examples/suggestions which can be shown.
FYI, this will be in a larger open-plan living area where there will also be a
Hamptons-style kitchen, so we’re thinking of linking the styles.

It is difficult to give suggestions as we cannot see the space you have. However, I like the idea of a pop-up flat screen. This would mean that the TV doesn't become the feature in the room.

Alternately -
1. You could have a wall unit built where the TV is hidden behind doors.
1. If you have the room, have matching cabinetry on either side of the fire-place.

In the photo below the bench is 6m wide. The TV is 1m. You could use painted timber or natural timber for your Hamptons style. Posted this picture so you can see the scale. Ceiling 2700m high.

Thank you for your comments and your sympathies, it is a difficult room to work with. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, behind the far wall is an enclosed garage which is used as a storage space and we are in the process of getting a shed built to move everything out of there and extend out, so the room will become more of a rectangle rather than a square and everything should fit into place nicely! We have tried different variations of furniture placement which did look nicer but weren't practical for the age of our kids, like Lego at our feet when sitting on the couch etc. I think we will leave the furniture as it is for now, however I love some of your ideas. Good point about the shag, that's gone, I will have a look for a low pile wool rug. choices flooring have some nice styles I like. I hadn't thought of incorporating a blue or terracotta toned rug, that could work well to better hide stains. I love the idea of artwork, what would you suggest, something abstract? Incorporating colours from the room or more a statement piece? I also love the idea of adding more circular elements and also a lamp to add height. Do you have any suggestions for either one? I'm also concerned the room is a bit impersonal, do you agree? Please keep the ideas coming.

I'm also worried about the old plaster actually taking the weight of a bracket. It's very hard to put a screw into our walls, the plaster falls away like talc. And the shelving units are too short by a couple of cms (If they went to the wall we couldn't open and close the bifolds). Ah well. Thanks for all your suggestions. Much appreciated!

haha!!!! Siri - you can have your Eiffel tower angel... give me the beach any day :) Nic - perhaps some driftwood, shells and a jar of sand might help bring the beach to you - just don't knock your sand flying or you'll literally be able to crank up your fireplace and lie down on your sand to sunbake lol.

Thanks both. Width is not an issue as we have 8.1 metres to play with (although we do not want joinery right across the room as it is not a deep room). I should have mentioned that we would like shaker-style cabinetry & fireplace surround. Kooky_karen's option 2 is of interest - was wondering if there were any examples of this with a lower-positioned tv.
