What to do with this space? Indoor/outdoor, deck or pave, slate or bricks?
Comments (10)Are you set on keeping the dirt area for your puppy or are would you consider container gardening? Does the area get a lot of sun? My first thought is there is alot of brick already between the facade of the building and that two story portion shown. But the herringbone paver layout is great. If it were my home I would probably take that Trex decking and extend it over in to the dirt area at an angle and then use pots to make my garden. Really great pots that you can move around and change by adding colorful plants when the season permits and then I would invest in really nice outdoor furniture to make the space. I see you have a small teak table and with a good powerwash it can be made to look new. Then add some outdoor chairs and hang a piece of outdoor art on the brick and that would be a great start but definitely start by just getting rid of all those odd plantings. It will be a lovely retreat. Good luck....See MoreWhat do you like most about your outdoor area?

Comments (29)I agree with everyone, the brickwork is craftsmanship and actually compliments the craftsman style of the house. It just needs to be broken up a little, the way a huge blank white wall would with art. Also a previous comment about the brick looking overwhelming closeup but fine in a longer shot with the bushland around it is also correct. In context, it's not as bad as you are probably perceiving it. Lots more greenery amongst the brick and a contrasting colour used on woodwork, pots of the plants and possibly even the bricks themselves (BBQ and pond) could really help, but most importantly, are really low cost. Google brick stain. Much cheaper than bagging the brick and easy to apply or maintain. It could also be used on terracotta pots of the plants and match a paint colour on the house. I'd go with a charcoal or blue grey to pick up on all the lovely bluestone used around your house. It really is a beautiful first home, very few first homes have a forever home feel like yours does!! You should be really happy with your purchase. Congrats!...See Moreideas for Indoor/outdoor space
Comments (10)my suggestion would be a solid brick wall with full width lowlight double glazed sound proof sliding windows (about 750 of the floor and only about 600 mm tall so that you can look at your gorgeous palms from a seated position without seeing above the fence, also add matching sliding glass doors to completely enclose the space and paint the new wall a dark colour so the focus is on the view....and, if you don't already have some roof ventilation a ceiling fan and roof vent will make the space more comfortable when you need to keep it all closed up for privacy and the side fence needs to be tightened up to cover the gaps and also paint the whole fence in the darkest colour to highlight the palms...sound is like air and water and can squeeze through the smallest gaps so all this effort and expense will be a great investment in your peace and privacy...See More94236633
