Comments (16)Heating and cooling: I suggest insulation is a necessity. We have a log fire in our lounge room, but one has to sit quite close to it to get any benefit from it. I usually have a throw rug, plus a cat on my lap, and often one next to me. The heat rises , so your upstairs area will often be toasty warm, but the downstairs area will be cold. In Sydney, depending on if you are coastal or further inland, it may or may not be a problem. Consider something like underfloor heating, perhaps? That is what we are going to look at when we renovate. Or, you could try a ceiling fan which is designed to blow the warm air down - depending on the size of your void, you may need more than one. I have a fan, but I am not convinced it does much....See MoreIt's on the fridge! But where will the fridge go?
Comments (11)Hmmm, I initially had same idea as bigreader about fridge placement where microwave shelves are, but I doubt there's ample width for a fridge there. Then there's issue with fridge door opening into same area as that door that we are wondering about. What size is your fridge? It sounds like you are considering placing the fridge on the carpeting with the back in the dining/living space. Is that correct? It's generally not a good idea to place a fridge on carpet in case of leakage and subsequent damage to the carpet. Do you own the apartment/unit? If so, this may give you more options. If you were able to remove the bench/cabinet to the right of your stove and the overhead cabinets there, that could be enough space for a fridge. But you would lose food preparation and storage space. As has been suggested, the wall opposite the stove could accomodate more overhead cupboards. It would be helpful to know what that door is for, the size of your fridge, and if you are able to do renovation to the apartment....See MoreDesign and styling options - double height void above cupboards
Comments (1)Hi Octavia, we had a similar issue with one of our projects. In that situation we used bulkheads above the cabinets to reduce dust shelves create a "light box" effect and had a custom light fitting with up, down and directional options made up to fit the space. This may not be a solution for you, but it at least illustrates one possible approach for consideration....See MoreHelp needed! Kitchen in void area dilemma
Comments (23)Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. @siriuskey the pantry door is just for illustration and we have not got to the interior design details yet (next stage). We saw a kitchen at Pure Interiors where the walk in pantry door was concealed in the joinery in the sense it all flowed well together. But I will keep your suggestion in mind when we get to that stage. @appalachianhiker thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. The photos are definitely very helpful. I like the glazing at the end of the wardrobe. In the original design, we had the entire wall of the master bed adjacent to the void made of double glazed glass with a gap going all the way to the bathroom. Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i0OJjoS3db_iFkkhYy-D63F9ZTw_2E77/view?usp=sharing OR: The architect changed the entire floor plan because there some issues with the FSR etc. We thought to have so much glazing, it would be very costly... @Alex Gunawan Thank you for your comments, are you able to share any photos of the void area and how you design it or perhaps any floor plan etc :) @Kate Thank you for your comments :) @oklouise the floor to ceiling heights at Ground floor is 3 meters and the upper floor should be around 2.9 meters or so. I am yet to confirm the upper floor......See MoreKK1000
