Bathroom Reno - should we get pro help?
Comments (9)If you've got great project management skills, design skills and an understanding of the building process for wet areas then go for it. If not I'd recommend hiring professionals, remembering you are not just paying for the work they are doing but also their training, experience and knowledge whether that be in design or building. Some of the bathroom product supply companies offer a design service (with varying level of design skills) and some builders can give you design advice (sometimes great, sometimes not). Alternatively, there are plenty of Houzzers who are happy to offer design advice and suggestions if you wanted to throw up your floor plans and a wish list. Once you've got your design in place I'd either hire a builder to manage the project for you or do some serious research into wet areas and engage trades as required, depending on your skill level; remembering some work like electrical and plumbing must be completed by a qualified trade. There are also a number of specific Australian Standards that need to be adhered to in wet areas for yours and others safety, now and in the future....See MoreBathroom layout help - awkward space at bathroom
Comments (5)Yes thank you for your thoughts. the room is 2.8 (with window) vs 3.4m. I do find it a bit annoying too as I don't like that you open the door and see straight away into the shower (though I'm certain the door would have a lock). I'm sure they lined the bath up to be with the window as visually that looks better, but then I find the space at the end annoying. I like the alternative drawings (I like three of them lots!) and I had been considering an drop in bath built wall to wall rather than a freestanding but also finding it frustrating to find a really nice supportive bath and there are less drop in baths than freestanding around at the moment which is a bit annoying. Thanks Anna for the picture, that helps as that looks good (though we would have more space at either end, 50cm) and I prefer the look of yours with some space but not as cavenous... I think I might have to have a talk with my husband as we really need to work out what to do!!...See MorePlease Help.. needed on Family Bathroom reno
Comments (11)I think oklouise plan with bath on the far wall gives you the most space, as well as giving space for towel racks. With a bathroom it's not just about the look. You have to think of the practicalities, especially with kids involved. If you can do the shower with just a sloped floor to the drain, like a wet room, and avoid the glass walls, it makes cleaning so much easier and looks more spacious. Perhaps it is worth considering just having a shower, if the kids are old enough and you are not planning on selling. You could have a really big double shower with a bench. we ditched the bath in our bathroom and haven't missed it at all. We also went for a floating bench vanity with a large mirrored 'medicine cabinet' above for storage, as we didn't need much. If you need the storage a floating cabinet, as suggested, would still increase the feeling of space. And you could also still have the mirrored cabinet above. We found custom and even ready made mirrored cabinets to be very expensive, and eventually found a lovely two door 1930's kitchen wall cabinet at an antique shop for less than $200. We took it apart, cut it down so it was shallower, put it back together, sanded and waxed it then replaced the glass in the doors with mirrors made to size by the local glaziers for about $60 each. It is even more beautiful, copes well with the moist atmosphere, and holds what we need. We love it, and it is a great talking point with guests. And we have a separate toilet too, which we just find so practical....See MoreHelp with tile colour please, bathroom reno
