Window Awnings &/or Screens.
I have a 1990 brick veneer home with a street frontage 30º NNE & windows that extend to the eaves. I'd like to use awnings or screens to shield from the hot summer sun Gold Coast, Queensland. Some of the traditional awnings can artificially date a façade & I'm not sure if the new popular products may be too modern for this home.
I'm also interested in awning choices for the garage door, I'm already familiar with Shade Sails, but I'd like to be stylishly different from my neighbours.
Can anyone offer some advice? Are manufacturers/retailers conducive to broadening the materials/fabric choices to tone up or down the age appeal of their products?

The awning will mainly be down in the summer and as I’m having white coloured sheer curtains on the inside windows I really don’t want a darker color on the outside if that makes any sense. Comments (1)yes...but windows need to suit the room inside, orientation and outlook and looking at your photo you may find that it's more cost effective to remove three small windows and replace with one big window that may be all sliding or have sections of fixed glass and sections of awnings or double hung windows either horizontally or vertically...but do you need every window in the original size and location? ..take photos from every side of your house and make a numbered list of the sizes of all the existing windows and you can discuss with a window supplier to get an idea of costs BUT windows are such a vital feature of passive solar design that you should take this opportunity to rethink every window....does every window suit the purpose, are some windows too big, too hot inside, in the wrong location, not private, missing a good view or cooling breeze...check yourhome.gov.au for advice to get the best results for such a major investment and you will need skilled help to remove and install so also time to consult a builder...See More

5 years agoFollowing up with an eventual outcome these blinds were a good buy at Bunnings & DIY installed. They were of a colour more complimentary of the brickwork, but their sun bleaching goes to show their effectiveness.
It's been a long time to show a result, though this answer to blocking the afternoon sun entering the garage window was worth the wait. One of two White Bougainvillea this one loves the position, more so than where the second resides outside the bedroom/ensuite right angle windows, but it's coming along...slowly.
