Cleaning the bathroom is a breeze, I have a nylon scrubber that I buy from Coles or Woolies and the cheapest shampoo I can find, after my shower I put a couple of squirts of the shampoo on the scrubber, run it from top to bottom all round my shower ( I have a large double head shower ) and over the floor then spray clean warm water from the top of the wall and let it run down the walls and glass area till the soap has gone, the shower in our 2nd bathroom doesn't have a spray so I use an empty Peters 2 litre icecream container keep filling it up with warm water and run this down the walls, hop out of the shower walk away and let it dry by itself -- once it is dry I have a perfectly streak free shower, for the bath and the vanity basins I use the same method, wipe them over with the scrubber and shampoo, flush with the warm water and leave, wipe the vanity tops, the area around the bath and window area with a damp cloth and hey presto a beautiful clean bathroom, this all takes only a few minutes and I always have a clean bathroom.

I'm sure there are special spray paints (fireproof/stove paint) for the cast iron which are diy, black is easy choice but I'm not sure of the colour range but check local hardware or google it. The mantle could be painted too though purists will cry about that, however you are looking for an update on a budget & a change so... If you are brave enough I would probably go for gloss black paint for the timber mantle. Painting it a colour will force you to update the rest of the room I feel where as the black (or white) is either classic or contemporary all day every day. With so much brick in the room it is definitely dominating & is that a different tile on the floor? If you are changing the floor then you could use that to re-tile the hearth. What are the rest of your plans for this room? Depending on what style you want the whole room will need to be considered before you start. The mirror could be painted too if you want to try to eliminate any more orangey colours in there.

I have had one for a year up on the mid coast of NSW. What I found was that because of the clean burn effect the air flow leaver only closes partly shut so that it burns wood at a greater rate when closed. I had another 6mm machined out of the slot that is part of the handle dampener plate. This has made a lot of difference as in the wood burns a lot slower also and lasts overnight, so i will use only half the amount I went through last winter and keep the heat in the unit. But overall they are great and I would buy one again. The other bonus is that they fit into a corner works for me. John C

We installed this gas log fire in our B & B which has been very well received. We wanted to provide a warm and cosy environment for our winter guests. The wooden shelf above is beautiful wood, not sure what type and there are two cupboards either side, one for DVD's games and CD's and the other houses the technology. The flue is on the outside wall behind the fire place. It is very efficient and effective. It warms the whole apartment including a separate bedroom and kitchen. I would highly recommend this type of heater which is thermostatically controlled and so easy for our guests to use with a remote control.
