Comments (17)You need pop.... I do not think gray would give you enough. Maybe you could paint the door red and replace the awning with something more refined. if you could find some of the of the same or coordinating bricks from the chimney then you could make two poles out of them and a wooden roof painted white. Or for a less costly route just paint the door some vibrant color an all the trim a nice clean white. You could also get some potted plants for a little more color....See MoreWhat to do with a false fireplace
Comments (5)Since you are definitely going to have to do something with them. Do you know what is behind them?1. Long term, for both, you can just cover over the flooring when you come to re-do it and carry the skirting along. 2. For the more elaborate one you may have to take down all the moulding and trim...But in the meantime I would investigate what is behind there - it seems an awful lot of trouble to go to... do you think they had those weird fake electric heaters with moving flames etc?...See MoreOur house transformation :)
Comments (28)Hi Creativelychallenged, thanks!! We are so in love with the house and are now planning an extension off the back to get some more floor space :) I can't be stopped! The front of the house has original windows. We restored them and they are pretty much the only thing that we kept in the house. Everything else was completely stripped out. At the front we also have huge bi-fold doors that open onto the balcony, I'll post a shot of this so you can see those. We look at the ocean so wanted to open the house up to those sea breezes. The floors are brand new. The are an engineered timber floor board that we put over the old floors. The original floorboards were in great condition but we took so many walls down that it would have cost a lot to fix them, so we just went over the top and my husband installed them to save costs. They are "Latte" by Preference Flooring. I love them! Our bathrooms are also brand new. The ensuite used to be the main bathroom but was tiny and didn't even have a toilet. We swapped the floor plan to make it the ensuite and the old dining room became our main bathroom. Here is the original main bathroom (we converted it to the ensuite) Ensuite - Excuse my filthy shower Here is a shot of working on the front windows. They were worth the effort! I'll post a few more before and after shots once i find them out of the 13,000 in my phone :)...See MoreOur fire place
Comments (12)Do you plan on using it for a heat source, or is it purely aesthetic? If it's a serious heat source, then I'd consider retrofitting an enclosed Jetmaster slow combustion or gas fire. Slow combustion fires are always preferable to open fires like you have- they slow the wood burn and direct the heat into the room, not up the chimney. Check out what the local wood supply and costs are first. If it's aesthetic, may gets run when you entertain. I'd get some black fireplace paint- paint the grate and the inner fire box black. I'd change the hearth- make it bigger, will prevent sparks and scorch marks. Like some others have suggested, keep the slate- change the mantel. Lots of DIY to give a go there!...See MoreCarole Wood
