You have a lovely sized room. As commented you could paint the walls white. Also consider a soft warm grey, Resene Quarter Truffle (NZ colour). The orange and textured rug and mirror warm the space. I would definitely look at a navy blue as an accent - throw, cushions. A massive artwork with lots of colour would look amazing on the large wall to the left of the fireplace. Curtains look more "beige" but I think they will look okay with the soft grey walls but will also make the floor blend better and become less noticeable. Good luck. An amazing space.

Kate - you are spot on! the previous owners had this room styled for relaxation/garden view, however for our family of 4 - the function is the key thing. Dreamer - your sketch is super helpful! exactly where I put the TV - and feels the most 'normal'. I might change the furniture to your suggestion. The 2 seater cream couch fits where the chair is, without blocking the bedroom access. Do you think better? Unfortunately the french doors open inward, and recessed sill's won't allow the change :-( Here are some photos...I am wanting to replace all the furniture/this is all from the Op shop Iv had for years. I can clear the clutter...but would love to still keep some books/musical instruments in there - maybe all in a different unit (tall) with the TV/books included? A friend suggested a big tall corner cabinet with the TV inside, on that corner wall directly opposite to dreamers sketch..which I thought about, but unsure on also I am so appreciate of advice - and would love to hear more of your thoughts, any furniture tips welcome too :-) Thank you!!

Hi there, your room looks lovely and has quite a formal feel. I think a rust or pinky/terracotta in solid colours square 50 x 50 cm (ish) would work in both couch and chairs and tie the scheme together. Velvet or linen would be beautiful and you could keep these as your neutrals. You could then add a rectangular one or two with a grey/rust or teal/rust print, or with one of these colours as piping. These can be swapped out later for a change eg a yellow based print would work against sofa and chairs. Using down fill will always make them look nicer than poly fill. Cushions can be expensive, If you see some you in the neutral colours that you love it is worth spending the money because you will have them for years - some of mine are ten years old. Most places will let you take them home and return them so you can try them out. I then go to fabric stores and look for prints I love and have the accent pieces made up by a local dressmaker for a fraction of the price and something unique to our home. I have mainly velvets and knits for winter then swap them out for linens and cottons for summer. Good luck I am sure your new cushions will add to your already beautiful room.
