Comments (8)Hi RE your relocation options, the plumbing is probably going to dictate what your design options really are. Apartment renovations are quite a bit different to normal reno works in that there are often a lot more restrictions as to what you can do. For example, in older buildings, the drain for the bath is often a smaller diameter pipe than the shower as it doesn't need the flow rate. This means that moving the shower to the bath results in long high pressure showers filling up the floor (so you definitely need a hob) because of poor drainage, particularly if you don't keep hair out of the drain. As the floor drain plumbing is often situated either within the slab or penetrates into the ceiling space below, it is not able to be changed without major works and cooperation of others. The water supply and the waste usually go back to a plumbing stack so your options also depend on the proximity to that. Many things can however be done, but the overall plan of the apartment needs to be looked at re stack/access to pipes/check pipe diameters. With a bit of creative re-working we have installed additional toilets and shown other residents some of the possibilities in the apartments we have done but every apartment is different. My tip would be to do some research within your complex as to what has been done by other owners and speak to them about the issues they had to overcome. If you don't know of any you could easily do a web search for your street address and you will see previous advertisements for apartments for sale along with (usually) pics. You could then approach them and ask how it went. It mightt save you some $$$ and time. Cheers...See MoreHelp! I think I bought the wrong bathroom tiles
Comments (51)Sounds like a very stressful situation! If there is absolutely no way the builder will allow you to change things (even if they did, I imagine they would ask you to foot the entire bill of pulling the tiles down and replacing all water proofing in addition to new tiles), I can make a few suggestions for improvement. Firstly I would suggest replacing the tiles above the vanity with a white mosaic, a patterned or a textured feature tile/strip. You could also use this same tile to replace the vertical feature in the shower. There are some beautiful shapes and sizes available to choose from. Secondly I would address the grout situation in this way: Floor - dark colour grout & Walls - Light colour grout. Lastly if it does not prove too difficult or expensive, maybe replace the tiles below the vanity with a plain white tile (could be similar size). Good luck and I am sure once you have a lovely mirror up and some crisp white towels, it will look just wonderful....See MoreBathroom Renovation Please Help.
Comments (46)Thanks so much Margot, SiriusKey and OkLouise for your help and great ideas. I cannot thank you enough for all your ideas and expertise. After hearing all your feedback and ideas I saw this bathroom when watching a re-run of house rules. It is the charity house main bathroom. It seems to be a similar shape and size to ours. If we move the door as suggested when can do this bathroom I think. It will allow us to have a bath and shower and larger vanity with 2 sinks. While I adore the bath shower at the end of the room SiriusKey while we only have one bathroom in the house for the moment we need 2 options for bathing / showering. They are often used at the same time with the moment. Thought you might like to see the pictures of what I am currently thinking for our bathroom reno. While I love your ideas for creating an ensuite in the current bathroom and moving the bathroom across a bit. This is probably too bigger renovation for our current situation. Sorry for the delay in getting this to you. I have had a sick 9 mo who only wanted cuddles. Not much time for anything else with 2 others to also look after! Best wishes to you all and thanks again for all your comments and feedback. It has helped me immensely....See MoreCreativelychallenged
