What's a reasonable cost and what your builder is going to charge may not be related. Is it a project builder? Have you already signed the contract? The cost in materials would be very small - a extra couple of noggins, a bit more sheeting and a bit more waterproofing. Depending on the tiles I'd allow 1/2 sqm more. And in Labour prob 1/2hr each for the carpenter and waterproofer and an hour for the tiler. As part of an overall job I'd expect to pay an extra $100-150, priced separately I'd allow $400. What have you been quoted?
When we built we were told it depended on whether we wanted all the tiles lining up, which took a lot more work. From memory $500 for basic (tiles not ling up) and a horrific amount for the tiles lining up.
We went for the cheaper option, and the tilers we had did a great job anyway, and made them look great anyway.
