The impact of the floor covering comes down to the R-value, or insulating property of the covering material. Ceramic tiles are so good at transmitting and radiating heat that their impact is really negligible.

So really it's just the vinyl that I'd be looking at. Main question to ask is, how thick are the planks? If it's under 5mm my instinct is that it's probably fine, but depends how the underfloor heating has been designed.

If your friend is worried about it, why not try a test by putting down a few planks and doing a touch test? How much heat comes through compared to the bare tiles? Should be pretty easy to feel if there's much difference.

Hi There JE, Just wondering if your friend used Wood look tiles or others instead of vinyl, guessing that the heat from the first layer of tiles would transmit to the top layer. I would be a bit concerned about using vinyl as the glue could perish over time. cheers
