Feature wall dilemma

I'm after some advice. We are renovating our house and we are currently targeting our lounge room. We are going to replace the ceiling and cornice. We've painted the other renovated rooms in a Solver colour 'Feather Dawn', which is a beautiful cool, almost white grey colour.
I want to paint the lounge room In the same colour but I'm thinking of painting the long wall a very dark almost black charcoal colour. I'm thinking this will draw attention away from the tv and also bring our French doors to life.
I know we shouldn't really paint long walls in a feature colour but I'm wondering what you all think would work in this room.

I had this brick wall which was a horrible white painted brick that was very dated. I decided to paint it in "Gravel" by Taubmans and it turned out amazing! The walls are "Casper White" by Dulux.

Hi Jade, You haven't indicated the actual dimensions of this room, and I think it would be a good idea to take these into consideration in making this decision. I understand your thought process re drawing focal attention, however, you do need to be mindful of the impact of colour in tis room. Darker colours will appear nearer and lighter colours tend to recede, so if the room is long and narrow, waiting the long wall dark will accentuate this feeling. Just something to watch out for! Sounds like your daughter's already got some interior designer instincts ;) Loving the black feature wall, and you don't want to take anything away from such a strong statement, so I think you should go with white... or at least a very light grey, e.g. Dulux Lexicon quarter (on the left)...

I agree to do your own thing! There were 10 feature walls in our last home, only two of which were painted same colour and that was because the rooms were opposite one another from the entry. In our current home, the only feature walls are in the theatre room, and we painted all the walls and ceiling. Walls are a deep plum and the ceiling is black (all matte).

brick wall so no option for cavity sliders gas heaters are already in that middle wall as marked, old heaters i think i need to service them as not sure when its serviced last also has two split aircons on both rooms on the far end no weather seals on entry doors, i can feel cold air is coming under some doors, where can i get the seals or is there someone who can come nd check all doors/windows and seal them tin flat room with not much space in between. I think there is insulation in the middle if not its very hard to do anything without opening up the roof sheets. We have double roller blinds on one side. No curtains on patio door(kitchen).

Hi Jade

Well done on your renovating so far and I agree it's a good idea to continue with your new colour scheme of Feather Dawn in this room too. That way you continue to integrate the spaces from room to room. I would be careful about painting the long wall dark as this will become the focal point of the room and could make the space too dark and unbalance the room. You could think about making the TV wall dark- then the TV blends and doesn't stand out. A couple of examples below to give you the idea. You could add some shelves with a few bright accessories to display on this dark wall for interest. Best wishes

Thank you everyone for your honest opinions. The room is 7.6 m X 3.6 m. I'm also wondering whether I could paint the wall with the tv the same dark colour as I'm considering to paint the longer wall with. Something like the photos I've attached.

hi there.

a couple of years ago when i was assisting contestants on the block Vs reno rumble we had discussions of half cladding and this looks amazing with a dark top colour such as charcoal.

All charcoal is very strong so possibly look at breaking the full wall.

I love this idea. My husband is not too keen on half cladding as we already have sliding French doors and bag windows in this room. He's worried it will be too much.

i understand what he is saying but there is a stunning cladding - its box cladding where the cladding is lower to the ground which wont be high.

The cladding is about 60cm high from the skirt.

Another thought is to have a high skirt - really high but i would prefer to see the box clad and it looks amazing and adds a real wealth luxury look adding value to the home.

I have a property styling business and i only style in luxury finishes and it always looks amazing when people have these features.

was thinking after looking at your images.

You could clad - see the measurements under the window - use that height around but you dont need to do it all around.

don't add it under the window.

Some people choose it in a hall only or in large rooms
