How do I create an open-plan living-dining area and entertainers deck?
Comments (11)Depending on your budget and how much structural work you want to have done, you could keep most of it the same. But you would loose your meals room. extend your laundry to the door of the meals room, turn your laundry side ways this will give you access to the out side, on the other side of the laundry extend your wall pass the internal door of the meals room to create a walk in pantry, extend kitchen gallery to laundry and pantry, open up internal walls of kitchen to living room and dinning room creating a beautiful Island bench looking into living room. open up external dining room wall for sliding doors to bring the inside out. because there is a walk in pantry there would be no need for upper counters so u could also have a bar at the kitchen window on the outside. Doing it this way you would save a lot of money not having to move plumbing and electrical in the kitchen. You would have to walk through your kitchen to get to laundry though....See MoreOpen plan dilemma...HELP!
Comments (27)ideally the spaces should be designed to the function and understanding of the use.. ie inside to out, rather than the other way..... clearly this is an oversized space for the function/furniture currently, since you are actively looking to "fill it up"...(usually it's the opposite!!, we're trying to clean it out!) What I would suggest is centralising the dining table to the kitchen & island reorientated longways (ie same as the bench) with perhaps then a centralised buffet feature or sitting area where you currently have the dining table.... This will balance this main space much better - two tables side by side will look weird, but a centralised dining zoning with flanking sitting/lounge areas of different scales would work and possibly enable better flow around this space This is the sort of space that could hold a massive 3m long table but it needs to work with the proportion/length of the room rather than against it Good luck! Comments (1)HI, any chance you could put more photos ?...See MoreDo ceilings and walls need to match in an open plan
Comments (32)I would prefer to see both ceilings matched with shiplap, to help tie the space, we all tend to look up. This would also mean that the wall between both rooms can be removed and therefore make the room appear bigger, as the height of the ceilings in each room will make them appear smaller if the wall isn't removed...See More- 8 years ago
