Beach shack revamp - need opinions!!
Comments (20)Wow love some of those pics Siriuskey! Thank you for the ideas. I struggle with whether to keep walkways 'clear' in this house - for example the two doors either side of kitchen and the deck door all create these weird walkways. (See arrows on drawings) Is it a smart move to 'block' them with say a couch, or an island bench, or the dining table? (See random furniture placement in pictures showing these options) I have uploaded a drawing with the current walls that we propose removing in green highlighter and showing where the current front door is. As you can see it's a wasted space and strange detour past laundry toilet and storage! I have sketched what I think you mean by entry next to bed 3- would you leave a small office room to one side and create a hallway or leave open and place miners lounge against west wall. Am I interpreting it all as you imagined?!...See MoreMy new lounge need opinions
Comments (49)I think a dark, heavy Chesterfield suite is wrong for this space. The room needs a sleeker, more modern sofa, in a lighter shade or a bright colour. I know lounge suites are an expensive item to replace though. I think a corner suite would be a good piece in this space and do away with the side table and lamps in the corner. The walls need some art - the mirror is decorative but does not add any colour to the very plain walls. The TV is massive and a very dominating feature. The dining table seems to be in an odd position in relation to the kitchen too. The whole space is very beige/brown and needs some colour to liven it up. Perhaps replace the cowhide rug for a large rectangle one with a colour and/or pattern....See MoreBlank canvas - garden ideas needed.
Comments (6)Hey there Ruth BT, thanks for opening up to the Houzz community for some ideas. It's a tough one when you have so many options to choose from. It sounds like you need a convertible space and some room to move/change things up. Have you considered perhaps some high quality synthetic turf, with some feature trees and lower planters or climbing plants to compliment? Maintains a modern look, without overdoing the coastal theme. Shade sails are also a great way to provide shade while plants are growing in, without compromising the style of your home or breaking the bank. Hope these suggestions spark some ideas - we're looking forward to seeing the end result!...See Morethe X-house - opinion needed
Comments (3)Thank you Oklouise for sharing your thoughts and ideas! To answer your questions, I'll start with the location - the building will be built in Central Europe (sun at noon is in the south - see the suncalc results for winter and summer time below), and this led our architect to the shape of the buidling - he designed it in this way in order to provide us with as much as possible sun in the winter time and to provide us with as much privacy as possible so we don't see our neighbours' houses from inside. (sun today, 13th January - north is up) `(sun on 23rd July - north is up) The architect created many views, you can have when you enter and move around the house (see the attached below picture). When you enter the house at the end of the corridor you can see a nice garden, then you walk in and in front of you, at the end of the sitting room you can see again a piece of garden. Then when you're at the sofa you can see the garden again. When you're at the table, eating you can again see the garden, and finally when being in the kitchen you can see a driveway to the garage. Of course, all assuming that we will have a nice landscape architecture. Your guess was right - room no.10 is the laudry, and no.1 is the entrance hall where ceiling will be high, and you will be able to see kind of a bridge leading to the room above the garage. Nearly same idea is the sitting room - the ceiling will be high and there'll entresol where the fireplace is....See MoreJulie Herbert
