Design ideas for an old window space in kitchen
Comments (7)Hi Belinda, it does look like you have a few issues to deal with - the shallow recess doesn't line up with anything it is cut into the splash back the narrow gap to the window it is out of alignment with the display shelves on the left So my first thoughts are - Tea/coffee cup display shelves with maybe a glass backing Wall mounted television screen Artistic decor piece made to fit Collection of antique copper kitchen items etc Chalk board Green wall with herbs Magnetic knife box display unit Board it up & patch the wall leaving a narrow gap above the splash back which could be creatively turned into a hanger with hooks or magnetic knife holder ??? Good luck ;)...See MoreBefore & after: Stunning transformation of a family home with views

Comments (21)Thanks everyone, sorry for the late reply, we have been away. I've measured the distance in the proposed bathroom from the walls to the sides of the window architraves on the 3420mm wall - this space is only 620mm each side, so too narrow for as shower to be run across. It's also 900 high from the floor. In regards to the light over the staircase - let's just say that one of us thought it was too low all along but you know, happy w.... you get the idea. We might re visit that hopefully. That said, I've installed step lighting in the stairwell to compensate. Really great to see some new ideas we haven't thought of for the bathroom though! My concern with yours @oklouise (in adition to the window now interfering with the shower) - is the room with the bath/shower going to be too small? I love the idea of having seperation from the bathroom and the toilet/vanity, but it feels like it would be back to being a couple of tiny rooms just like the current main bathroom is, and for the size of the house, we were hoping for something that felt larger and more spacious, with lots of light. What are your thoughts?...See MoreBefore & After: A Landscape Design During Lockdown
Comments (0)It’s possible to create a beautiful landscape design with clients during the lockdown period in NZ. Recently, a client approached us with a big idea and we are able to make this happen, despite the face-to-face and site visiting limitations. The client is after a simple, yet modern and stylish space that is relaxing and private with easy access to the house. We decided on a redesign to the rear of the property to accommodate a new, attractive but affordable covered outdoor room. This also has a separate seating/hanging out area for both relaxing and entertaining. It has an easy flow to move around and between all the spaces. Part of the brief was also to devise solutions to create privacy from the neighbouring houses along the two most exposed boundaries, and to develop a new gardening area. Above: Landscape Concept Plan To make sure this design fit the client to a T, we asked them about their lifestyle as well! This is so important because it gave us a clear idea of just how functional we needed the space to be! The design has two main areas - the new louvre roof over the existing deck with moveable blinds and screens for privacy or for easy access between the deck and home, and also a new paved patio area on the existing lawn. This second space is specifically designed for relaxation and chilling out, framed by a beautiful garden bed of Crimson Queen Maples. We’re also going to combine a mixture of exotic and native plants to create a cohesive planting design, including an edible garden and layered trees for visual appeal. Above: A still shot from our 3D design walkthrough We’ve gone from design stages to pricing and planning and we could not be more excited to get to the site and work on transforming this space into an oasis! We’ll keep you updated once the lockdown lifts.
