Comments (86)LB I think you confuse me as much as I probably confuse you. LOL. ;-) I noticed I had some crazy auto correct word in my last post which I think was supposed to say "able" (I can't remember now what it even said) ;-) Oldroo I think the builder said something like sticking the old roof bats under the floor. The rain, yes we had it here more then a week straight!! It was great because 1) I was on the sunny coast in Qland that week! And 2) we are on tank water which we have been running off empty for about 6 months now and we just got a second tank connected a few weeks ago as well as guttering on our shed and guess what.... Our tanks were overflowing for days!! We could of filled 3 or 4 tanks at that rate!! So I am very happy about the rain!! :-D...See MoreWhere to place a TV
Comments (9)I am also in the build stage and originally, I was having a fish tank that was then to become the focal point of the lounge, hence all the furniture was to face the tank. Now, the tank has been scraped and I have, with the help of a dear friend, completely done a 360* with the furniture and was able to decide to hang the tv from the opposite wall. My point is, if your plan is in it's infancy, in other words not set in concrete, on the drawing board still, then my advice is, CHANGE something, so that the room becomes more balanced!! No time like now to visualize the space and keep drawing just that room until you have enough windows, doors etc... to satisfy your needs and you will probably solve the problem fairly quickly. Good Luck, Barbara...See MoreWhat to put above tv
Comments (2)I wouldn't put anything above the TV. I'd consider replacing the mirror above the fireplace with a large, vibrant artwork so that the TV isn't the focus. Repainting the TV cabinet a different colour might be another option as the white cabinet blends into the white walls which really makes the black TV the focal point of that corner....See Morethe biggest dilemma where to put each room on new design
Comments (30)Obperth2014, I would suggest standing in the middle of the block, and getting to know where the sun comes up and goes down, and where the breezes come from. Yes we can all do this with a map, but it is good to actually go to the sight with a compass and a map. In Perth we have the strong southerly winds, and westerly winds from the coast. Therefore cross ventilation from that direction is good for cooling the home down in summer. We also have a hot easterly wind in the summer, coming off the desert. This time of the year is great to stand on the block and see the winter sun direction. In my previous post I have mentioned the summit home design, "the mod" I still think this is a good design for your block, with west side covered with a large vergola or fixed system. This will then utilise the full yard from your living areas. Front living room windows can be moved to be north facing, with a smaller window on the northwest frontage. Anyway, food for thought....See Moreoklouise
