Need help with curtain colour

I think patterned curtains are more casual and with the amount of windows you have, they would make a huge statement in the room. Darker curtains will reduce the light and can make the room look dingy. If you felt you don't want perfectly plain fabric, look for a slub fabric or something with some interest or texture in the weave. You could even have a self stripe which can look very elegant. I have just finished new curtains through my house and did the double track where I could and used a thermal lining that I can pull across to keep the cold out and it worked very well and is also working well now in the heat keeping the rooms cooler - in fact it is amazing some days the amount of heat trapped between the curtains and the windows and kept out of the room. In my bedroom I used a heavy sheer curtain to be able to enjoy the view of the garden while still maintaining privacy and the thermal lining gives me full privacy at night. I'm thinking this could be nice for your room when you have such a lovely outlook too and you do need something to keep the sun off your furniture and furnishings. There are also thermal roller blinds you could use instead of curtain linings, these do darken the room but they work very well. If you use the linings though, there are different weights, I used one pass in my bedroom and other rooms, and it does not darken the room very much at all. In my lounge room where I really needed heat blockout in summer, it was a bit of trial and error - I used triple pass and it does significantly darken the room to the point of totally gloomy - I really don't think I would use it again....See MoreWhat colour curtains?
Comments (6)Hi Tamz You do need a block colour as Embrace Interiors have suggested. This is because of the similar fine shapes existing in the rug and bed covers. They are also different styles but you can capitalise on this. The complimentary colour to your flooring is a Blue Violet, also in your rug. (that's the colour in between the Red Violet and the Blue: a warm blue! It will also pick up on your charcoal, especially of tinged with a Blue Violet, something like Resene Gun Powder V42-016-285. Blue in Colour Psychology will encourage communication whole violet is more about giving one's self spiritually and in public endeavour - why government and the Church use it. I'd suggest a Blue-Blue Violet will go great in a solid blind and will back your jungle theme. Have fun and if you need art Tailored Artworks is happy to advise....See MoreCurtains for rooms with random colours
Comments (6)Very exciting time, but I have to ask why you can't change the paint colour paint is cheap, then if the curtains are in reasonable condition you could keep them, otherwise plain coloured Ikea linen curtains to match the living room wall colour in all rooms...See MorePlease help with living room rug, curtains, throws and cushion colours
Comments (71)Rachael, you’re very welcome! It was fun to draw up. As far as layering photos, I wasn’t suggesting you cover one photo with another, (what is the point of having beautiful photos and memories then! Lol) rather, overlap the edges of the frames (both are quite wide from your photos) so that they are connected without obscuring the images within. Hope that makes sense! What a difference just painting that back wall makes! It really opens up the room now. I think the few bricks around your fireplace now is a very charming feature. It keeps the charm of the original while bringing the rest of the room into a fresh new era! Well done! I would suggest running a long extension chord for your tv for now while you try out a new layout for the space if there are no powerpoints on the far wall, just to be sure you like the arrangement. Can’t wait to see updated images of your new space!...See MoreD'Cruz Design Group
