Hi Alyssa Alban, For your floor boards - polyurethane with a satin finish is great for high traffic areas or if you have kids and/or pets. It is a hard wearing surface. The alternative is tongue oil for a more natural finish. A stain could be applied to change the colour and feel of the rooms. As for the walls and trims - if you want to keep the traditional look, I would suggest to maintain the timber trims or, if you would like to freshen or lighten up the scheme, I would use Dulux Natural White Acrylic Wash and Wear for the walls, and Dulux Natural White satin on the trims. If you're thinking about the doors, I would go with Dulux Natural White in semi-gloss, which is a nice clean finish. Hi susileh, It's important to understand there are a lot of variety of sheen levels available from left to right (no sheen to most sheen): Flat or Matt, Eggshell, Satin, Soft-Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Gloss, Super Gloss etc. For something that will seem a little fresher and new, we recommend going with Cabinetry which is between Eggshell & Satin. It is probable that your hall will continue to be dark, and that the lights will need to be left on, even once you have painted the timber-work. Perhaps check out some options for improving solar access - Velux sky windows, solartubes or Illume fibre-optics. Given the cost you will be looking at to paint = sanding prep, 2 x coats of sealer, 2-3 x coats of paint + labour (if no diy)......would you consider a wallpaper?? leave the timber architrave and wallpaper over the panel with a neutral-white seagrass wallpaper ??
