What kind of dresser is this?
Comments (7)I am no expert, but it appears (from the wood, shape and handles) to be a danish teak dresser - they date from around the mid-late fifties and sixties. Don't think they are particularly rare (check for makers mark eg) Borge Mogensen/Sorborg Mobler?), but they are lovely, and very on-trend (similar new version by West Elm sells for $1099). Didn't find one exactly like yours on ebay, but similar vintage ones listed start at around AU $550-$600 and go up from there. A great thrifting find!...See MoreNeeds a new look
Comments (17)Hi Filfy, some great ideas from everyone, mine will probably be quite similar. Firstly, depends how much you want to spend and what look you are after, modernise or modern? Anyway, here are some of my ideas. Take out the Yuccas from front area - they really close in the house there and make it look depressing, replant them, maybe along the front side of house. Repaint the brown timber cladding to something like, Dulux Malay grey or similar. Repaint the Fascias in same Dulux colour as well as the triangular piece on the roof. Take out lattice, do not replace - old and tacky now, very popular years ago though : ) Extend deck along front of house and also bring it forward(if you have the cash), stairs to come forwards (straight out) to meet with path. Decks make a big difference to a house and re-sale IMO. New railing in... Timber posts near Yucca's, are these painted or oiled and stained? See if you could sand these back (I hate sanding-takes time) and stain and oil them, possibly teak? You could re-paint them in Malay grey but stain and oil would make the property look more expensive. Or if you want to render, just do the front of the house and say a metre coming around the side of the house from the front. Could use a grey on the render, paint the slats either a light colour (something that goes with the brick and grey, close to white) or a very dark colour like domino….. Hope this helps.. : )) Below is a link to a big renovation I just finished on the Gold Coast. Comments (23)Hi Sheila Would you consider metallic-finish tiles? That would tie in with the metal kickplate & other metal surfaces. It would give contrast without added colour. It would remain in the 'neutral' zone that helps this kitchen seem so relaxed. It would also reflect colours to give variety. You can then play with accessories for a colour change as the mood takes you!...See MoreFarmhouse
Comments (16)Thank you all for your suggestions and advice, there are some great ideas there, I particularly like the look of corrugated iron in keeping with the 'farm' theme. If we were to go down the path of applying mortar, could we then paint it all? I've attached an image of something that I think could work if we were to do that.. To give an idea of the style that we're hoping to achieve - the interior of the house is largely laminate timber walls which I'm in the process of painting white and we're pulling up the brown tiles (in the living/kitchen/dining area) and carpets (in the bedrooms) and replacing with floating floorboards and new carpet in a neutral colour. The attached image is the most similar I can find to our 'style'. We are very lucky to have such an amazing view that's for sure! OkLouise, thank you for providing a name for the bricks - I have had such a hard time researching what to do with them because I had no idea what they were! Thanks again everyone - I really appreciate you putting thought into our project!...See Morebigreader
