From 3 tiny rooms to one bathroom that has it all
Comments (12)Hi meusm, and thanks everyone for the comments. The open shower is a dream to use, there is so much space it feels like showering outdoors. The shower screen in 90cm wide. I was always worried about the splash, but its not a problem at all. A small amount of water does get out (I estimate 1/2 a cup), but we have a bath mat. If the screen was 1m I think there would be almost none (although this obviously depends on your shower head, water pressure and fall of the shower - make sure you get the fall in the floor right!). Because it is all open it dries very quickly. The pocket door is a cavity slider, which slides between the wall behind the towel rails. The sliding door was essential in such a tight space. All the best with your reno!...See MoreRumpus room design advice - burbank design
Comments (6)Hi Amie, I'm a completely unprofessional Houzzer lol but just thought I'd make a couple of suggestions ok? Would you consider swapping bed 4 and the rumpus? Then you could add your sliding doors to maintain privacy/close off the bedroom/bathroom section whilst leaving your rumpus open to connect with your meals/kitchen/family/alfresco space? If not and you are leaving the rooms as is, I'm not sure I would close it off as the rumpus to me tends to be a more open space? As for the space (I think previously a WIL) at the front of your main bedroom, oklouise has been such an amazing and wonderful help on my ensuite/master bedroom plans and she has designed yet another amazing plan for us, complete with a sit down dressing table in our WIR. I'm just wondering if you could do the same with that space for you which you would access from within your master bedroom? Could be a great use of that space for you.... oklouise comes up with great ideas! :) Good luck Amie - looks like a great plan....See MoreFirst time renovator – need help with my design!
Comments (50)Hi Mel, Kitchens are an integral part of any home and particularly a busy family, so much to consider. I personally think an Island clear of any sinks or utilities makes for a more workable space. It lends itself to food prep, kids homework, meals, guests perched on a bench whilst you prep. Sinks always accumulate mess so I think a sink put to the side works better. Gone are the days where you will stand at a sink hours at a time. Think about how you like to cook and use a kitchen a cooktop not far from the sink works best think straining pasta pots, vegies etc.. As for butler's pantry's I'm not a fan, why spend money on a lovely kitchen only to be cooped up in a small kitchen off to the side, very unsociable. Houses are made to be lived in and sometimes that comes with a little mess particularly in the kitchen. Don't hide away in a butlers pantry embrace your home and kitchen and all that it entails. I recently completed a kitchen with a similar colour scheme to what you are suggesting black, white and timber, I anchored the kitchen with the black Island and used white cabinets for the rest of the kitchen. Matt surfaces are on trend at the moment as opposed to gloss or semi gloss, matt finishes hide finger prints and children's hand marks better, dust will show up on darker surfaces so be mindful of this. I adore natural materials and feel that a timber floor really adds warmth. Take a look at the kitchen I recently designed for my clients, would love to hear your thoughts. Happy to assist you any way - Good luck with your renos. Thanks Collaborative Interiors...See MoreVanity design dilemma with 2 basins on one side
Comments (18)A vanity bench can be made to any size. You can still have your storage at 1.5-1.6 metres, but have a bench top running the full length of wall as drawn. The builder is able to install anything that you require which is drawn on your plans and in your budget. Why is the designer saying they cannot provide a long vanity? Is this not in your contract monetary allowance? With a bench top of 1.5-1.6 metres, two basins will be squashed, and would leave no room for bench space. You have two options, either only have one basin installed, or once the home is built, put a freestanding drawer unit which is a similar height to your vanity, along the same wall....See MoreLeecy
