Help please to Improve Street Appeal to this small house!
Comments (13)Great suggestions already. I like the idea of the french doors leading to the lounge and opening onto a covered patio. Block up the existing door unless there’s a good reason for keeping it. I’m sure you can find something interesting to do with the space gained inside the house. Keep everything light and bright paintwise but you could let your head go colour-wise , soft lemon or green with white trims, or different shades of your favourite colour. Some plants in the ground, some in pots: a lemon tree, rosemary, succulents, etc. Good luck....See MoreHouse Facade
Comments (2)It doesn't have to be a period style home to have traditional characteristics. The roof pitch and elongated proportions aren keeping with traditional homes, perhaps mores bungalows, not Victorian or federation at all, however the elements that could contribute are all decorative. I don't think adding corners are necessary, this has quite a lotof street appeal. From street level, the main focus is that double window with a gable, so I suggest a large double window awning with timber decorative brackets and a colourbond sheet roof, this will add more dimension to this facade, and perhaps then add strapping details to the above gable. Go with a charcoal to accent the timber details, including the fascia, spouting (gutters), garage door and window frames. Render would be a main expense if you did fo that, id prefer to see a bagged brick rather than a flat finish render, as this will make it more contemporary. Bagged brick allows a textured surface still allowing you subtle brick feature. Paint the render a coffee tone, one called urban grey is beautiful. Add perennial flowers to the landscape, white flowering pal ts like oak leaf hydrangea, snowball viburnum tree or weeping cherries. I think it has potential for sweeping manor-esque gardens....See MoreNeed help! Modernise house exterior
Comments (54)I would start with making a decision on the carport first. Start by talking to the council as you may not be able to do a double carport (and the single carport at your neighbours looks like a tight squeeze!) Also as Missmel said you should probably also make a decision whether to paint or not early on. If you are going to go with carport, paint, new awning and possibly porch windows you are getting into a whole new look so I would start talking a professional about the best way to design it. As an alternative to the porch enclosure could you get the front windows double glazed to reduce noise? If it was my place I think I would only be changing the awning, paint the fences, landscape, and maybe do a single carport if its really needed (plus the tiling etc that you mentioned). Some new fretwork might be nice too. To me the main thing to change is the bullnose, as you said its not original and it looks heavy and dominating. You will have to post some pics when done I will be really interested to see how this all turns out....See MoreHow to improve street appeal of our house
Comments (17)Hi yecats_h, I saw some people suggested cladding and I think it would be a very nice touch and would bring your house features up. Plants and a lush lawn would be a plus as well. There are a few things you can do to maintain your lawn that won't cost you any money like aerating it or tinkering with your watering and make it drought resistant so it develop deeper roots (you can view some advice here). A fresh coat of paint, a new garage door, a more modern letter box and an exposed aggregate driveway and entrance if it hasn't been redone since the 90s would probably clean it up....See More- 7 years ago
