How would a piece of wall art suit the space? A lovely print with colours that are in other parts of the space would be complementary.

It looks like there is a down light in that corner which would highlight the artwork.

My first thought was a tall, skinny plant, but yes, toddlers and plants don't mix! Agree with juliahocking, a tall skinny artwork would be perfect on the wall to fill the corner. That way you can bring in your love of the jewel tones

Love the idea of the glass topper for the table Oskuee, but the table extends and means we would have to either get two pieces of glass or two pieces of plastic....and keep one in storage. And storage is fairly hard to find around here!!!

Agree with teaching children to respect stuff from an early age...but that doesn't mean to say kids won't get into mischief or do what they know they shouldn't do!

What about a small cabinet/buffet with a lamp on top (if there is a PowerPoint in corner) then you could put a collection of pics of different size's & frames. That would give you an added storage. Another idea (maybe not for everyone) if you would like to see the t.v from your kitchen iyou could mount one up high on the wall.

I like this.. you could update the pics as the years go by.......

How about a toy box with an easily wipeable upholstered top .- It could be both functional and decorative, Select a piece of art to hang on top and pick up the colours in the upholstery.

did anyone mention a lighting display . I didnt see it mentioned 2 pendants hung at different lengths ,will give you a visual effect at night ,and a presence during the day , you can still put something under it but thats the feature the drama at night everything else of just a dim glow coming from the corner.

I'd put an oversized pendant over the table, put the fourth chair in, some subtle art work on the larger wall ( nothing that will compete with the pendant) and relocate the tall vase. Easy for little ones to scoot around, no obstacles and your dining table becomes the focal point.

Firstly, I would put curtains on both sides of the windows for balance, and preferably in a lighter colour to brighting up the space. The larger side of the two corner walls could then be adorned with some art or a tall long photo frame.

Although an artwork would work well in the corner, I actually agree with Nicole. A hanging plant would give you living art, with possibly a sculptural feel to it depending on the type of plant you choose.

I was originally going to suggest a china / display cabinet because you seem to like the classical type furniture but when you mentioned the lack of space, I would simply go for an established pot plant either a tree (sitting on the ground) or a hanging plant (or maybe a cluster of three hanging plants all at different heights). Plants will soften the corner without taking over the space.

,Put the fourth chair at the table and an oversized pendant light over this (making sure it doesn't block the security camera in the corner,) then your dining table becomes the focal point.

A narrow side table in the corner with a lamp to the right side as I can see that you already have power, with perhaps a mirror above this would to help open up the corner.

One other thought is if you run New continuous curtain tracks into the corner you could draw the curtains back into that space,no tie backs just a wall of curtain, then hang a plant in front of them and use the light for night time drama!!

Relocate the tall vase. Floor Pot plants and kids don't mix well as kids love to eat dirt.

Loving Nicole Parker's idea. Hanging plants are very chic and definitely good around kids and animals.

In Germany had stiffish plastic mesh covers to cover the dirt in pot plants when living with toddlers. They had big big (toddler safe) plastic screws so you could screw them into the dirt and the kids couln't lift them. You can also tie an old black nylon stocking over the inner pot, leaving or cutting a hole for the stem, so the kids can't reach the dirt but you can still water the plant.

There is already a lamp the other side of the window (not the door), next to a couch....so probably wont go for that option. I didn't take a photo of it as that part of the room was rather messy :\

Also, I do have a fourth chair. Just didn't include it in the picture as it made the photo look cluttered and you couldn't get the idea of how empty the corner looks in real life. If that makes sense....

Still like the idea of a plant...I think i will look to see if I can find a nice hanging plant/pot or a large pot to put a larger tree in. Hopefully if I get a big enough put and cover the dirt somehow, it will be (more or less) toddler proof!

The next 2 sound a bit hippie but you can do them with your toddler and if they get pulled down noone gets hurt.

- Fabric collage on a sore bought canvas with pieces of velvet, satin, silk in your favourite colours. Finding some vintage fabrics or op shop clothes to cut up is a cheap activity and add you can even add some bling or go with a geometric art deco style.Again Pinterest has great images.

I have a similar corner near the dining table in my open plan kitchen-dining-living room and have recently decided to put up some picture ledges. These are very narrow shelves with a lip at the front to stop things from sliding off. There are loads of photos here on Houzz and you can always Google for more. I am going to wrap mine around the corner as both walls are the same length (70cm) to the windows (which have roller blinds). They're a great spot to display photos and all sorts of other little knick-knacks which you can use to bring in those jewel colours while keeping everything safely out of reach of little ones.
