I don't think so. I'm about to use black handles for my new kitchen, and stainless steel tapware... it's more the style that matters rather than the colour.

Okay, so as expected the matt suede surface is more expensive, not sure how much yet but when the builder says price on application, I can imagine it will be a fair bit more. Anyway, we'll see but something to take into consideration I guess... In the meantime, I was going through my idea books and found the photo below, which I kind of forgot about but is one of my absolute favourite kitchens... the point is just like the photo, we too will have a wall cabinet in matt black, the back of the island in matt black and oak floor boards in a natural/textured matt finish... so now I'm thinking maybe too many matt surfaces, interestingly they have gone with a polished stone top which I think is reflecting the light nicely... Our floors...

Have you been to visit some kitchen showrooms? You can customise the photo search here on Houzz quite a bit. For example, you can simply select [dark wood[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/kitchen-design-ideas-with-dark-wood-cabinets-phbr1-bp~t_10444~a_17-103) cabinet finish in the filter options. Then add more filters like floor colour, kitchen layout, cabinet style, wall colour etc if you wish. Leave the benchtop and splashback options open and see what results you get. You can then save any photos that appeal to your ideabook.

aysymmetrical is gorgeous and having the wall and base cabinets the same is only an issue in a cross section view a real life 3d view will look very different and the view out the window and the comfort and convenience of your cabinets is much more important my own kitchen had a similar dilemma and, against the cabinet makers advice, i chose to install the cooktop and range hood to one side of the base cabinets and the wall cabinets set back 30 cms from the window and none of the wall cabinets line up with the base cabinets and imo the most important aspect is that the kitchen is very comfortable to use and having the window set back allows for more light and feels much better...i did consider having glass shelves in front of the window but decided that would only clutter up the view
