I put a lot of thought into what kind of sink to install ino my new kitchen: single vs double, stainless steel vs other materials, dish drainer or not, and finally undermount vs top mount. I went safe and chose industrial grade steinless steel, double sink without a drainer but with aditional part with multi purpose. I was very indecisive about the last thing: undermount vs top mount sink and finally decided after reading this - I will go top mount.

I have the Blanco Clarion sink with drainer tray. I had it overmounted and I absolutely love it! I’ve had this sink for 2.5 years now. It’s so easy to wipe down and keep clean. No mouldy edges because it is so flush against my wooden bench top. I am renovating my kitchen later this year. I plan to keep my Blanco sink overmounted over my new stone bench top as it will also help to prevent the stone edges from chipping around the sink, a problem you may encounter if you undermount the sink instead. It still looks great overmounted too. I imagine you could still use this sink with laminate bench tops if you overmount the sink because my plumber had put a stack load of silicone all along the perimeter of the flat edge of the sink where it sits on top of the bench top. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and my sink gets a real workout. My sink was costly (costs a lot more than standard sinks) but I’ve never regretted spending that money.

@Kate you might find this kitchen plan helpful. I renovated my house a few years ago & used a great Melbourne kitchen designer & manufacturer. I have my sink under a new window & the stove & under bench oven on the back wall. My island only has storage & the microwave. It's often my kitchen prep bench, but it can be a little cluttered with other things that might need a better home like mail 😅 My house is a single fronted Edwardian

You have a lovely long island. So...where are you going to chop your veges, prepare the meals? If you have the sink under the window, will you stand there and prepare food?. would that be okay? if you think you will stand at the island preparing food, then a sink would be good, for washing hands/ food, without having to cross the kitchen every time. You could install a small sink at island. I always keep my island bench clear of clutter, and I do have the sink in the island. sinks are deep and a few dishes is not an issue. But I never have people sitting at my island. We all prefer to sit at the adjacent dining table. Because that's what there made for. Often I will prepare the dinner, and people sit at the dining table. That is why I have my sink in the island. My island is 3500mm x 950mm. so there is plenty of room for my double sink and prep area. So, do not worry about what other people do. Design your kitchen space with how you live.
