tiling selection for ground floor

I have just one week left to select tiles for a ground floor area including two bathrooms. I have been told by a number of people including an interior designer that I need to flow the living area tiles into the bathroom and laundry as they come off a common corridor. I am having some difficulty doing this as then the tiling of this bathroom is dictated by the living room floor tile choice. Choosing the living area tile is difficult enough.

I feel like I am back at school and trying to solve a simultaneous equation- HELP!

Great design apparently involves repetition. There are 3 other bathrooms, I am not sure I want to repeat the tiling of these other three as per the one down stairs where the tiles are supposed to flow from the main living area (i.e using the same living area floor tile in the bathroom floors ).
Is it a cardinal sin to deviate from this design rule or mantra? I've been told that doing so would create a fireworks type effect or display.
