Advice for entry foyer
Comments (20)You have a very nice size foyer but to me there are just too many things and too many styles going on. The cabinets look very contemporary, the fixtures and furnishings are more traditional and the stained glass in the doors adds another element. My thought is that you may want to try to simplify a little. If a more traditional look is what you are going after I suggest that you embellish the cabinets to give them a more transitional look and possibly consider replacing the brightly colored stained glass in the door and sidelights with simple clear beveled glass panels to give it a more classic updated look....See Morelong hallway concept...
Comments (22)Hi, We also break up a long hallway with zones, and often do it with the ceiling and shallow nib walls / feature recesses. You have the width to do a few things. When the hallway is straight we create short length dropped bulkheads and 'frame' areas that lead into specific locations... eg the entry can have a small dropped bulkhead at the end of it that feeds into a feature protruding wall combined with a different ceiling height. That wall might sit out by a couple of hundred mm and that allows anything from a series of recessed boxes (shelf like) to a feature frame for large artwork. We also change ceiling heights through sections to zone off eg the living end vs the bedroom end or place features such as light wells in them. Cheers...See MoreEntry lights
Comments (14)Your house is being illuminated like an office space. I'd put recessed track down the hall (maybe 2 strips, one in the gallery and another infront of the cupboard). That way you can adjust the lighting to suit art etc. You don't need allot of light in circulation spaces, and ideal area to highlight elements), in fact, there's allot of light (and power points) in this plan. Judging by the location of the ceiling power for your garage, the panel lift door will obscure the batten light when open. Is there enough room for the light to clear the mechanics of the garage door opener? I'd question the builder/sparky, ensure the switches to the bathroom will fit to clear the shower and any door mouldings. As a side note, is there opportunity to build in niches for the hallway door to open into...See MoreHelp please! Parquetry in my hallway OR solid timber planks??
Comments (29)Thanks Siriuskey for your fotos.... beautiful Parquetry floors, beautiful home and stunning water views! I notice your parquetry floor transitions to grey tiles as well.... which is also very similar to what i will have happening. Im now very much leaning towards parquetry you'll be pleased to know. I collected some samples today, and noticed the store had them in a double formation which i'd never seen layed like that before. Its just 1 block of parquetry layed right next to another to make it seem thicker. I think it looks quite contemporary....check out the pic below from the timber showroom:(top half shows 2 blocks layed together in herringbone pattern) I placed a few of these on my floor as example No1, then i placed some in single herringbone as example No2 below. Which do you think looks better? - examples No1 double block herringbone - example No2 single block herringbone Thanks in advance for everyones input and feedback :-)...See MoreSammy Elder
