Roof advice sought: cape cod roof on "canberra red" brick house
Comments (8)Thanks for your thoughts, they have helped us with our decision. We're now planning on using the barramundi roof tile (it's a grey, a bit softer than the soho nights black. And not so shiny) with matching gutter and fascia. And the cladding in paperbark. I was thinking cream windows instead of the timber, so there's some lighter colours on the brick downstairs to tie it to the top. We can't match it exactly to the paperbark cladding because we aren't using aluminium windows, but I'm hoping the cream (which is supposed to be more of an off-white with this manufacturer) will look okay in the clad dormers upstairs. Fingers crossed!...See MoreWeatherboard - timber or fibre-cement?
Comments (7)nothing wrong with a mixed but balanced materials palette.....we regularly mix weatherboard cladding with rendered sections, but it comes down to how it's configured and the form articulated....the problem is when say only the lower level is render and then you have a lightweight upper form articulation - it screams obvious upper level add on, rather than seamless extension.......... It's always about balance and texture - on your home the tiles provide a nice complimentary textural contrast to the render.....you pull this out and replace with a more streamlined contemporary material you'll get a different look - it could well work, but as always when we deal with these types of project we try to respect, preserve and derive the solution form the original character as much as possible........ If you are using an architect specialising in this type of work then it sounds like you are in good experienced hands and rather than confuse the process for yourself you'd be best to work through the options with them privately - it can be almost too confusing and overwhelming the you get multiple opinions, particularly say from here where your context and the project subtlety/details are not fully understood... Best of luck with it Cheers PD :)...See MoreWeatherboard extension to brick veneer house
Comments (38)Hi all, I'm back again! We're almost there and just trying to decide between using axon sycon cladding or weathergroove for the vertical cladding. Would really appreciate your thoughts on whether the axon would look too modern for the house? We're keen on it for durability, low maintenance. We're thinking of the narrow board, smooth and painting it a colour similar to this https://www.haymespaint.com.au/index.php/explore-colours/colorbond/view/12/4941 I've reattached the external photos.. the plan is to replace all the brown cladding and leave the brick as is. Any help would be great. I'm very much a novice! Thank you 🙂...See MoreExterior Colour Scheme for 1940's Weatherboard Home
Comments (10)Hi Jared, I too like your colour choices. I’d suggest though painting a large swatch on the boards before ordering your paint colours and viewing the colours over at least a couple of days, at different times. Maybe even put some paint on each NSEW aspect. Recommending this as one of the colours we’d initially chosen was much paler irl and one threw a bit more green than blue. I love surfmist, we have it on our gutters, but just check that the sun shining on it won’t reflect directly onto traffic if the roads about you are sloping or raised....See MoreVon
