Curtain Dilemma
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if I can get some advice regarding curtains? we are first time home owners and I am trying to get our house to look and feel like a home. After a year, I have finally replaced the old and vomit coloured curtains the house originally came in, I have chosen a roller blinds for the house and although they look fantastic it does not look quite polished. So I have been looking at sheer curtains to put over the roller blinds for that more polished look. Now, I looking at pottery barn's belgian flax linen sheer curtain or the voile pocket sheer curtain (100% cotton)... they are a bit pricey so I have been looking at alternatives. I looked at curtain wonderland and I have found a linen look sheer curtain but it is 100% polyester... my dilemma is, I don't know which one is better? would I be better off buying the polyester? or stick with natural fabrics such as the linen and cotton? I have attached photos of the curtains :)

Comments (5)Depends what your design skills are like. I carefully trawled through dozens of curtain photos on Houzz, selecting the ones I liked. When I showed them to the curtain maker, she carefully explained how that not only did they not suit the rooms or my house (I have old-fashioned tastes in a modern house, was her way of putting it!) but in some cases they wouldn't even fit the windows. My advice is thus to get some advice from an expert first - you can always ignore it later, but it may save you some time. I'm now very happy with all the curtains suggested by the curtain lady - and I still have my dream curtains (pooled silk with swags, romans with fake swags . . .) in my Houzz album . . ....See Morefireplace dilemma

Comments (6)Thank you all, the double glazed windows/doors have now gone in. You've given me a lot to think about. The windows & now stacker door in front of the deck have a vergola type roof cover, however the other 3 mt window/door, not shown, does get full sun so an outside awning come summer time might be on the cards also. We do have fairly good shrubbery giving us privacy during the day except for one area which is an issue at night, and we do have outdoor roller blinds surrounding 2 sides of the deck. I think I have decided that block out roller blinds might possibly be the only practical solution as any window treatment must allow for the windows to be clear of furnishings during daytime use, especially in winter for the sun to heat up the living spaces, as well as being more open visually. Rollers will tuck away near the transom at the top of each window, only 1 blind to cover each window area, but 2 on the 3 mt window. I'm not bothering about covering the glass apex area, its now double glazed and with the vergola panels open during the day allows loads of sun to stream into the house, great for winter. Roman blinds are too deep and Panel verticals are too wide, no area to tuck away at the side of the windows so will encroach on the glassed area of each window. As much as I really loathe vertical blinds they do serve a really practical purpose, but now that I've turned the left hand window into a door, it means any verticals would have to be pulled into the centre of the frame.... hmm some serious decision making still to do....See MoreColour advice for bedroom curtains
Comments (28)yes. stallion looks like it is in a sample hanger with all or most of the various colours available. your other photo with the 6 or so swatches looks like all warwick samples. The Bleecker pleat does look interesting. I haven't seen it in Australia. Just remember any 'different' headings will substantially increase your making cost. Making cost is usually not unreasonable in Australia in my opinion as we have regulated wages etc. so making will change depending on how much labour will be involved. the most 'flexible' cost with curtains is your fabric as fabric cost can have a very wide range as you have no doubt discovered. but the making cost is the same whether the fabric cost $25 per metre or $250. the labour is the same....See More
