Renovating and extending a 1937, 2bd house, Perth
Comments (37)Good on you abstar9511 for choosing to Renovate! I've personally gone through a renovation in the last 18 months and it is worth it. From the pictures the house looks to be in fairly decent nick for a Perth original, especially one by the beach with our salt and winds. If you choose to update the gardens at a later date, Planted Passion is happy to quote on a resilient garden design and installation for your properties' weather/soil/aspect conditions. Personally, I can see a Cottage Garden vibe which would like stunning, especially with the inclusion of some Hedges for beach wind protection. Good luck with the reno!...See MoreMaximise street appeal
Comments (18)Re formulas for what to paint each section, I remember that in Bunnings and especially serious paint shops there are brochures and sometimes computer aided planners for repainting Period Homes, and yes there are rules. Good luck, at the moment the building looks quite stiff with the stark colours of just blue and white, so a well selected colour palette of period pastels will make all the difference. After that put a "beauty tree" in the middle of the lawn and sit back an enjoy your house....See MoreKitchen colour styling
Comments (15)Thanks for all those comments. It would be nice to replace everything but it was done in stages and some bits cost a bit. Taking shape piecemeal with out a whole perspective resulted in the dilemma now. I would hate to lose the stone bench top and the tiles laid recently to match it. The rest is negotiable so I really aim to tie it together. No one is tending to sit in the kitchen they rather sit in the living room. And yes I need better shelf space and spot for microwave and I did hope to get the fridge next to the door beside the wall return but I would need a thinner fridge. I had hoped to remove that door altogether and use the bi fold doors in the living room as an exit but they may not be ideal for that. So my main aim was to tie together the bench top and floor with colour and maybe some modifications to the upper cabinets?? The back door is actually and off white....See MoreHelp with a garden redesign for a California Bungalow
Comments (15)Hi John22565, that looks great. You've really taken on board the plant selections and styling that goes with the house. I'd possibly be wary of the rose in front of the oleander if you are in a high rainfall area as it may feel a little crowded and be prone to black spot, but that's the beauty of a living, growing garden, you can put things in and then move them around if they don't quite work. Maybe (and it is only a maybe) some catmint or a small lavender variety along the edge of the driveway and in front of the roses??? Don't forget you can always throw some self seeding annuals into the garden beds for extra colour and depth. Enjoy :)...See MoreSammy Elder
