Wow - could you have this in your house?
Comments (10)Personal taste aside, I think it's put together well. I like the sofa aNd elongated space, I also like the coffee table, but not keen on e browness of that rug. It does add texture, but it feels as though it needs a lift, which is odd in a room with vertical space?? The floor looks great but hidden. I'd lighten that rug to suit that, layering is fine, but something sympathetic to the floor might help reflect light from ground up, the the timbers and sofa would warm the area by contrast....See MoreExterior needs wow.
Comments (2)I love this style of architecture, and yours already has what your looking for! Instantly I had a thought come to mind, and your coastal position reinforces that further. I would play up the industrial, flat plane of this facade by using old, reclaimed timber planks. Barn style, however the protruding window reveals in a almost black would allow these striking details to protrude even further. With age, something like ironbark will grey and weather gloriously, and be complimentary t the coastal landscape. You could use clever shutters that fold down or up, both improving ventilation on openable windows and light where necessary. Filtered light is welcomed in summer, while the shutter screens, for lack of a better description could fold down in winter to let light in. The reveals could even be designed to reticulate catched water, by cleverly fabricating a box gutter into the frame themselves, down to rainwater tanks. It is really quite beautiful, you are very fortunate....See MoreDoes having wooden floors means avoid wooden furniture?
Comments (11)Our last house and our current house both had wood floors and lots of wood furniture. Using area rugs (I've got a weakness for oriental rugs) provides separation between the floors and the furniture. And if the walls are light, as in LesleyH's photo above, you will certainly not feel overwhelmed with wood. The only time there's an issue in my mind is when the walls are also wood clad - that can be a bit confronting and needs management....See MoreFloor-plan feedback/ideas needed -What do you think of this floor-plan
Comments (51)siriuskey, Yes, the courtyard is open to the sky (no roof over it), I assume this is what you mean by double story. Ref. below photos, I would love to get this look, especially the first and last photo, where you can see family living space from the first floor. I can't achieve this in my plan as it eats a lot of floor space upstairs. The referred plan (photos) has a very big void combining staircase, hallway and dining area. I know it is not easy with cooling and heating when you have such a big void. So, I explored a few ideas (with my limited knowledge on this topic) before achieving the current floorplan. I have also thought about, in my current plan, extending the void on the staircase to the dining area (it is more like L shape) but i wasn't sure if that makes any difference. keen to hear your thoughts....See Moreoklouise
