Hi there - exactly the same thing happened to us and I was devastated to see the aluminum strip. like you, this wasn't discussed. So disappointing when you pay so much for a new bathroom. Can you tell me whether you ended up painting over the strips? I'd love to hear what you ended up doing and how it looks, four years on. My sister says she is sure we can paint over them. But I"m so disappointed as it's not the look we were after. We are stuck with our bathroom company who are also doing our bigger downstairs bathroom so at least I can make sure they use white edging around our window. many thanks

I picked up the dark coloured carpet runner. This seems to make the hallway look very narrow. I suggest to perhaps try and remove it and see if it looks wider without it. My suggestion is yes it will. For the side wide cavity in the wall surface, you have a choice as others mentioned. However, do stay away from dark coloured paintings if necessary as it does make the hallway look narrower. My choice would be, remove the dark carpet from the hallway and use a large mirror in the wall area. It is than your choice what to put on the surface area of the cavity to compliment the mirror.

Sounds like a very stressful situation! If there is absolutely no way the builder will allow you to change things (even if they did, I imagine they would ask you to foot the entire bill of pulling the tiles down and replacing all water proofing in addition to new tiles), I can make a few suggestions for improvement. Firstly I would suggest replacing the tiles above the vanity with a white mosaic, a patterned or a textured feature tile/strip. You could also use this same tile to replace the vertical feature in the shower. There are some beautiful shapes and sizes available to choose from. Secondly I would address the grout situation in this way: Floor - dark colour grout & Walls - Light colour grout. Lastly if it does not prove too difficult or expensive, maybe replace the tiles below the vanity with a plain white tile (could be similar size). Good luck and I am sure once you have a lovely mirror up and some crisp white towels, it will look just wonderful.

Hi Chris, The Jolly edge will look the best if you are using Porcelain Tiles. If your Mitred Jolly edges are cut and grouted properly you should not have a problem with chipping. Your tiler can cut all the mitres on the factory edge and set their saw so it preserves a small amount of that edge so to avoiding a sharp point (which otherwise is vulnerable to chipping). If you can't find a tiler with a diamond saw machine like a Hasqvarna with sliding overhead arm, which can do your Mitre cuts, then you could try marking out all your cuts and take these tiles to a stone mason (granite fabricator) near you and ask them to do these cuts for you. A stonemason experienced in fabricating large sheet Porcelain tops such as Neolith or Quantum+6 would also be a good place to start as these will know how to treat your tiles. Hope this is of help.
