Help with main bedroom / WIR / ensuite floorplan please
Comments (12)Thank you so much for your comments and great ideas kiwimills , Pleased to Bijou Design , Leeder Interiors and oklouise . I agree with the door at the end of the bed being a better and more convenient position. Originally I had not included it there to access some of the light from the other window (obscure glass slider), and to avoid the feng shui coffin position with feet facing the door. On further reading I might be able to remedy it with a tall solid bed-end and blanket box/bench. I can see how walking through the WIR each time would be a pain. An alternate ensuite plan (below) as also suggested by Leeder Interiors. I wasn't sure if I had enough room for this... it would get me a larger vanity 1200+ rather than 900. Not sure however what: the recommended distances from the vanity front and toilet should be ? minimum width i need to have for the toilet space (between the wall and slider opening) ? If not, the extra bench space over the cistern also sounds like a good idea. Thank you...See MoreEn-suite or not in main bedroom ?
Comments (55)I think you should explore the idea of getting a Pod on the deck. its like a mini granny flat / cabana with toilet and small multi purpose room. You might have the space for this. Your layout looks fine as it is, and if you have a covered pergola, a second toilet in a pod will works well there. I am a bit against adding plumbing and moving walls to your house. First its a mess. lots of putting pipes under the flooring, fixing the flooring again, also ceiling and conrice works, and you end up with smaller bed, tighter layout. Too much sacrifice and not too much to gain....See MoreMaster bedroom/ensuite/WIR floor plan help!
Comments (14)One question i have with your design Oklouise is whether the sloped ceiling will look odd in bed 2? The house is an old queenslander and bed 2 was originally the lounge room, with two sets of french doors opening on to an enclosed veranda. We are opening up the front veranda but not the side one (because that would limit the floor space we have available to build in downstairs). The "reading/playroom" was kept separate to the bedroom because that space has a steep sloped ceiling and a set of french doors opening on to it so we thought it looked like a separate space. If we remove the french doors and knock down the wall, do you think the bedroom will feel strange? We would like to keep the set of french doors opening on to the verandah at the front of the room....See MoreMaster Bedroom, WIR & Ensuite Design After Home Addition
Comments (12)Thank you for your feedback. I agree with your comment on the main bathroom. That layout is from the original 1984 house build, so it's something I'd like to address, but I don't quite have a vision of how to get around that yet. The second living area you mention was a discussion point during design, but we felt gaining the extra bedroom, robe and bathroom had higher importance. Our thought process was that bedroom 3 could always be opened up off the main entrance and converted to a small second t'v room if we needed it (3.4m x 3.1m). We also converted a 6m x 6m garage to a living area with tiled floor, insulated walls, air con, couch and t.v etc, so having that space swayed the decision to go with an extra bedroom and bathroom....See MoreMalcolm Jackson
