Comments (62)apennameandthata i don't know... vertical is more shed like style, while we still have a colonial style base and veranda. Dust will be an issue here (although its not so bad in that particular spot on a river, good protection from trees) but pressure wash will be regular practice anyway. Thanks for all your suggestions and I will take all on board, especially sandstone ideas. I don't this I want this house to look pretentious, but how can I describe that, I am after some subtle "wow" factor or something a bit different, but it must look like we knew what we are doing and YES, I want it to look like high quality build and not a transportable house or kit home. The house rectangle is so simple that I worry it may have that boring factor in its looks and that is why I am looking for some ideas. My problem is a tendency to overthink but I hope I will find a balance at some point :) At this stage I think: galvanised tin everywhere (or that zincalum), rusty steel posts, aluminum windows with timber look, sandstone features around main door and sandstone chimney. We had a big flood last year and the spot never goes under water, its on high grounds even though it is only meters from the river....See MoreWindow frames in a vertical Zincalume wall
Comments (20)@cloudyhaze I don't, because it doesn't exist yet! Currently under construction. We have a cedar-clad studio which has weathered awfully, so we are going to attempt to use some kind of wood stripping solvent to restore the colour, and then oil. For our cedar/colourbond we are aiming for something like the images below: cedar cladding on the back, colourbond for the upstairs and around the sides of the house that don't get much traffic....See MoreWhat colour for the new roof?
Comments (19)Hope you've been able to use all our inputs! I've never noticed the surfmist roof to be dirty looking - my neighbour is always swearing about the bird poo on her darker roof. The fence is a lot closer than the roof for noticeable bird doings, lol. It's not quite white, anyway, it's got a silvery off white thing happening. Our winters don't really get below 1 or 2 c at night and that's pretty rare. It's usually an average of 7 or 8 degrees at night and 14 to 16 in the day. It's very Mediterranean - long hot summer and short wet winter... The winter is pretty mild altogether... I'm still working with some succulent cuttings at the moment. Our winter would be like an Autumn in say, the UK? Our Autumn time in Adelaide is when we plant a lot of stuff that others would put in in spring. Otherwise they just fry and die if spring planted, the UV is insane, they need winter to acclimate. Our grass is dead in summer and grows in winter... backwards! When we built I did a cactus and succulent yard with no lawns - grass is black hole to put money in, down here!...See MoreWhich colour colourbond roof?
Comments (23)Yep, when we painted our house I went round in circles. Then the paint shops suggested we go look at a house that he new the colours of. We did and went with that. Internally several years earlier I had a colour consultant in and we adopted her colour schemes for the lounge and master bedroom,. I wasn’t happy with the suggestion for the master but went with it, and hated it from the start till I eventually repainted, she hadn’t listed to me. I was happy with the other room though. Get your sample pots and make sure you do 2 or 3 coats to get tru colour. It’s still a lottery sadly....See More- 8 years ago
