Comments (10)On a budget I would just add identical frames with pictures around the TV. 2 on the sides and 4 along the top. I like the clean lines of the current TV stand but it would look better against your floors and with your furniture if it was painted a dark brown. I think a round side table next to the chair would look very nice and tie in with the ottoman. Other options would be to create a built in for the TV with shelves on either side. Or you could also add an electric or gas fireplace and put the TV above the fireplace....See MoreWhich room for what and layout help for dining and living rooms
Comments (20)Two years later... We ended up purchasing a 3-seater for wall opposite fireplace, a 2-seater for under the highlight window (leaves a comfortable space to enter the room) and an armchair placed diagonally opposite the couches. I've fooled the advice to pull the furniture in off the walls a little. We have just updated the fireplace with the (professional) installation of an insert wood heater and (DIY) replacement of hearth and tiles/timber mantel to conceal the brick while meeting the safety specifications of the heater (required a much wider/deeper hearth than the existing brick one so we removed and replaced with a slab of honed granite, and the minimum height for breastplate/mantel shelf posed a few design limitations). TV mounted above fireplace to allow for better furniture placement. Not quite the picture I had settled on 2 years ago, but works with the style of updates we have made elsewhere. Thank you for all the advice. before: After:...See MoreHelp configure furniture in our narrow living room!
Comments (5)By changing the entryway as you have, you have created a more expansive living area Congratulations Now don't box yourselves in again by only using the lefthand area of the new space! Have a round dining table with 4 chairs (and a couple of folding spares if you have dinner parties) Add a console or buffet cabinet on the wall opposite the kitchen entry Use a large mirror above that to bounce light from the balcony, as well as decorate the wall Wall C is a good place to wall-hang the TV, but put it closer to the entryway corner, so you can watch it from the dining table as well Enclose the TV in a built-in shelving system for added storage (can never have too much storage!) Place a modular unit at point A and B with a lovely big rug That will not feel too 'boxed in' Anchor that with 2 easy chairs that can move from point D to wherever you need them for any given occassion A large print on wall B will be a focal point for people entering the room Add wall decoration and living greenery Lovely! Comments (6)I wouldn't make any suggestions without seeing pictures , and knowing about the load bearing structures -- anything can be worked around , but if it costs $100k to get rid of the hallway , for example , it won't achieve much extra space or light IMO . One thought though -- did you consider swapping the dining with the family room -- at a quick look you may be able to open that wall at the right of the kitchen easy , by disguising existing load-bearing uprights as part of a breakfast bar , for example ? Just a thought on a potentially cheaper option ....See More- 7 years ago
