What do you have in your third drawer down?
Comments (38)This ia a really old article. My third drawer now houses all those 'one off' bits and pieces that don't warrant a drawer for themselves and their ilk. Amazingly, when I need...that thinamejig or whatzit that would do the trick its always in the thrid drawer. tangled up with all the other 'third drawer' one offs. So - third drawer for whatever you need! Pretty good system really. Apologies to the professional cabinet makers who cater to the super organised...drawers with partitions. Honestly, if I absolutely had to live according to the norm.."a place for everything and everything in its place" I'd go a bit batty trying to remember what was supposed to occupy what partition and I think, the way my mind works, I'd feel quite frustrated. I don't have time to be super duper organised down to the colour coding, the things of square or round shape, the plastics and the chinas...and I certainly do not posess a china cabinet where to display all the expensive and heirloom dinnerware. that would never get used...can't see the sense. In fact, I only have six drawers in my kitchen and a nice large 100yr old built in linen and pantry cupboard down the length of the hallway that was built to house the basic kitchen utensils and also has room for any modrn appliances. My kitchen is small, functional, individual ane compact, My beautiful wrinkly assistance dog has his own drawer...and he diligently takes out and replaces his "stuff". My bits and pieces live in the third drawer and when all is put way there's a sense of ease in my kitchen....See MoreDEADLINE DESIGN: Dream home must-haves
Comments (12)Love the bathroom! Mainly the tiles and colour choice. It does feel very disjointed in my opinion from the style of the bedroom (see below photo). the bathroom is so modern and sleek but the bedroom is so loud with the wall paper and clashing seat at end of the bed. Then next door the parents retreat/lounge that you access the main bedroom through is all green and bug pictures. Other thing I question is the choices in the media room. Client asked for recliner type seating and a projector. They have him a $22,000 TV (projector would have given bigger picture at fast less cost) and these recovered foam chairs that don't recline and don't have a high enough back to lay back into them. Shame as the roof of the media room done like a night sky and the Doctor-who lights were really cool. Bet the owners change the chairs as they just wouldn't be comfortable....See MoreBreathe New Life Into Your Home With The New Decosplash Collection

Comments (11)Hi @Macyjean, it’s always those impracticalities like one thing being in front or on top of another that drive us mad. Most of the time we only have one hand free to grab an object and it’s ridiculously frustrating to have to move a towel to get to the t.paper. I think every photo on social media has to be used as inspiration only, and through the lens of”how would my things and lifestyle actually fit and work here” . Most people, most days can barely get through the laundry list let alone when it’s raining, , your family have come down with a virus and the new puppy hasn’t yet finished toilet training. These are the real days of our lives where we need to just reach the toilet paper, and everything else without hassle. Re the luggage, it’s the same for anything that needs storing- the things you use most need to be closest to you and where they are used. The things less used in the less valuable spaces. Unless you have acres of storage(which actually has you walking miles from one end of the home to another, following a hierachy such as this is the way most people have to live . This can be greatly enhanced though with a lot of thought going into how and where you do activities, what your physical capabilities and limits are and then designing ergonomically to those parameters. (it’s the not so sexy aspect of interior design that we specialise in:)) You can see the blum space step drawer you mentioned here , it’s great. I’ve included it into dressing rooms for shoes and providing access to the upper storage cabinets https://www.blum.com/au/en/products/cabinet-applications/space-step/overview/ And I’m glad we’ve got you thinking- it might spur a solution to your luggage:)...See MoreComplete Kitchens
