Sorry to be a downer, Suzanne, but the minute I saw your table I immediately thought bulk so I have to agree with Leelee, that it will visually fill an area, especially where space is tight. That said, I do love the table. The other thing I am looking at is the table with your sofa - the sofa is much more formal and delicate and suggests a period design, while the table is ultra modern, heavy and casual. I'm wondering what chairs you would put with the table to balance these differences out and that won't be swamped by the table. Love the example Dy has posted for you, he always has great ideas. There was a lady once on Houzz who had an extremely tiny home we helped her decorate and she went with predominant whites with shades of blue and natural elements and the result was restful and really beautiful. Her tiny rooms were beautifully decorated without making the rooms looked swamped. These make great backdrop colours and you can see from the two vases of flowers just how easy it is to add some additional colour. Keep a lot of clear glass for accessories too - lamp bases, coffee or side tables, vases, etc. These will create a more spacious look also while still dressing a room.

I'd have a look at the IKEA room layouts in their catalogue or online. You don't need to use their furniture to "borrow" their layout ideas.

my suggestions include a small lounge and occasional chair with side tables and a generous toy box or table with shelves for work surface and toys for small kids, a big rug to sit on and tv above and/or to the side of the heater...also consider alternative access to the storage cupboard for extra wall space and a 75cm deep island over 45cm deep drawers with knee space on two sides will keep the island less bulky and have more walking space between island and dining

First thing -- colour ! Literally , the only colour is quite an ( IMO ) insipid faded-mustard throw ! Change the rug to red , or orange . The chairs around the existing table -- the same ( red or orange ) . Cushions -- ditto . A big ( 1.2 x 1.5 metre ) abstract picture with 10 colours , with red , orange , yellow , apricot , mustard , pink , light blue , spearmint green , etc -- predominantly a red / orange spectrum though . A mid one two , and a couple maybe 30 x 40 ( one vertical , one horizontal ? ) . I'd even get rid of one couch , and add a classy modern red ( or orange ) square chair . Or sell them as a pair , and get a red leather couch and single ( or two , as that is generally how they are sold as part of a suite ) chair .
