Designers/creative folk..Please help with..ideas for bathroom reno....
Comments (18)Your mockup scheme is similar to our master bathroom we just completed - photo below. I know you mentioned storage being a concern - our mirrored cabinet has offered an amazing amount of storage in a very small space and also helps bounce light around. I was worried about black taps etc too so we kept chrome fixtures but added in a matte black candle and black potted orchid to create a similar effect which we can change out later on. Our floor tiles are dark but because they are semi-polished they actually bounce around a lot of light and don't make the room feel dark if that is a concern. We also have a huge fiddle leaf fig in the corner (not pictured) which adds a really nice feel to the space - a plant like that could help bring in the outside greenery in your bathroom. Instead of the storage tower you have to the left of the vanity could you do say some floating wood shelving, possibly with baskets added for more hidden storage? You could also bring in the 60s theme with what you displayed on there eg. photos as you mentioned? In regards to the window - a previous house we lived in had a window at about shoulder height in the shower - as well as letting in heaps of light it was amazing for storing toiletries etc!...See MoreWould love to see your reno ideas
Comments (16)Our house is similar, but we are empty nesters and down sized about 4 years ago, our needs would be a bit different to a growing family, we are currently in the throes of having two smaller rooms made into one area to further open up a previous renovation to give us a bigger open space..we also have an ensuite and a combined laundry / second laundry space. The good thing is that being a brick veneer house the reconfiguring is relatively easy with modern technology and big beams. As above try and have a big open space, we have been out of our home for a month now and still a way to go, add living away from home to your budget or stay with family. I will try and post the plan but here are a couple of journey pics ..the last photo was before trying to show how the two rooms decided the space making the living room very small and a bit dark...the aim of this project is to have space for a bigger gathering than about 4 people before overcrowded. Light is really important, nice big windows essential, the darkness of the living I thought I could live with, but it did get me down, I a, looking forward to having a much lighter space...See MoreExterior House Reno pls help
Comments (8)Sorry to have to say this but I don't think a new paint colour and some faux stone is going to make this house appear any more warm and inviting. It is typical of many McMansions and has been built to look grand and imposing from the front, so it is overscaled to dwarf visitors. I would be making some structural changes to bring the scale down to a more human context. The parapet at the front looks over-scaled, out of proportion and top heavy with all of those mouldings. I would be removing the parapet down to the roof line and adding a new eave and gutter, which will probably reduce the height by about 1.2metres. You may want to consider the same with the garages to reduce the height of the parapets, but these are less important. The new eave will also make maintenance easier as you probably have a problematic box gutter behind the parapet which is prone to clogging and overflowing rainwater into your upstairs rooms. The eave will also offer some protection to the summer sun. This style of McMansion should is so unsuitable to our Australian climate and is so wasteful of resources. Unfortunately a coat of paint is not going to fix the basic design issues. Have a look at some of Susan Susanka's work and writing to understand the importance of human scale and good design in residential architecture. https://www.houzz.com.au/pro/sarah-susanka-faia/sarah-susanka-faia?irs=US Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls...See Moreearly 90s exterior reno
Comments (18)I love the look of the house ! I love the glass bricks -- there is no way I would change them . I love the angled glass . I love the round garage window . I could even live with the colour . The 3 things I would change initially is -- 1 -- the front doors . I understand why they are done in charcoal , but I'd be more whimsical -- maybe a bright lipstick red to soften the pink tones , maybe 2 big stainless handles to tie in with the balustrade , maybe rich stained wooden doors with long narrow frosted windows -- the 'ship' look ? 2 -- the front 'fences' . Either they are wooden , or extremely poorly poured concrete . Do them in solid plastered concrete painted/rendered in the house 'pink' -- classy and ties in with the house . 3 -- the plants -- they literally look like those creepers that grow over rocks that haven't been looked after . In my eyes , I imagine a huge ceramic pot at least 1.5mtr round and similar height , filled with several different cactus , on the left hand side . And 3 palm trees planted on the right hand side -- maybe 5 , 8 and 12 metre tall . Miami Vice all the way haha , along witha $500k capital gain !...See Morehouseblend
